    Not familiar with 65’s much. What does the “S” indicate?

    65 GS was an option in late 65 .So vin doesnt show if it is a GS car or not like all the other cars after 66. but all 65 GS cars had S on cowl plate to show GS package also had to have bucket seat codes.I think I explained that right?

    Thanks for posting body tag! Breaks down as follows
    05B = May second week 1965
    158 = black bucket seat interior
    R2 = Flame red exterior with black top
    S = gran sport ornamentation package
    BAL = Baltimore assembly plant
    The S on the body tag is used at only 3 out of the four plants where gran sports were built! Fremont CA plant did not use the S on the body tag!

    Bucket seats were a mandatory option on the gs in 65! The first production models were built starting second week of January 65’ so late by production standards!

    No "S" on the Freemont built cars. You need a build sheet or Protect-O-Plate to verify those.

    Good to know. I'd love to have a '65 someday but don't know anything about them.

    Partial vin on left valley pan rail will match will match last 8 digits in the vin to be original engine. Also, coded LR to be a 65 GS engine with some LT exceptions.

    Nah, just match the vin stamping on the boxed frame to the vin on the body and it's proof positive unless it's a convertible.

    OP has a convertible (has the S), but don’t you want to know if the rest of the drive train is original to car? I would not want to pay top dollar for a car with non-matching replacements. That’s just me though.

    1965 gs convertible production total 2147! 1426 auto, 598 4 speed, 123 3 speed! Plant totals! Flint= 1181, Fremont=205, Baltimore =549, Kansas City=212 ! Interesting is that they built more convertibles at Baltimore than Fremont and KC combined!!? C89C4C8E-5A79-431E-A56D-D04BA3176FF5.jpeg Here is a very early Flint convertible body tag!
