Hello all. Excited that we just recently added a 1959 Buick to our collection. It has a 364, but no tranny. Can anyone guide me as to what year dynaflows to look for that will work with the 59 Buick? I found one out of a 1955. We I’ll that work with the 364 and 59 rearend?

'56-63 Twin Turbine is supposed to be the same design generation, but I can't say any further whether there's other changes within that span that would preclude it from bolting up.

We need to know what model / series 59 you have. The FightPitch DynFlow ( optional on some models in 59)
Was still in production in 59. FlightPitch transmissions are insanely expensive to rebuild.

    Don’t know that a 55 is compatible.

I would look for a standard DynaFlow from the same series / year as your car to avoid any
    Torque tube/inner drive shaft dissimilarities.

1960 Dynaflow should work with the 1959.

    I believe the 1955 output shaft ( splines ) is different to 1956 >>

Agreed on sticking with a ‘59-60 unit as first choice.

58-60 are just about direct bolt ups, the others have issues. The 61-63 are designed with an open driveshaft, the older ones are designed for the torque tubes. I'm told 56-57 will work in a pinch, but there would be mods. Performance was the same from 58-60, so they'd be your best bet. And yes, that optional Flight-Pitch is a nightmare best avoided.

So pretty much limited in parts to that year. I live in the Raleigh area and looking for parts. Currently just need front drums and a driver side spindle so I can roll this off my trailer. Any ideas? 92DA12B6-F7D6-4374-BA5F-68F9AA7D3582.jpeg

The VIN starts with a 4. Am I correct in believing it is a Lesabre?

Correct: 4 is LeSabre, 6 is Invicta, 7 is Electra, 8 is Electra 225.

I may have 1 bad drum, will check. I don't think I have any spare spindles tho- will check.

Do you know if 1961 Buick front drums and spindles are the same as the 1959 Buick?

    Brake Drums -- Absolutely NOT......
    1958 - 1960 is 12" x 2 1/2".....
    1961 - 1970 is 12" x 2 1/4"......
Different Brake Shoes, Different Wheel Cylinders,
    Different Brake Drums.....

Thanks for letting me know. That is great information. So then I assume the spindles/steering knuckles are different as well.

mobileparts123- I heard you have parts for these 59 Buick’s? So I guess chassis wise, only 59 and 60 are interchangeable?

To a point. The frames were different, but most of the smaller parts should interchange, whole assemblies might not. And with a LeSabre, you're limited to Invicta/LeSabre, there isn't much off of an Electra that will fit except some basic components.
Both 59-60 were very unique, which is why there aren't too many of either left.

^ It's not the uniqueness; production in '59 & 60 was the lowest between 1948 and some point after the year 2000. In fact, Buick's U.S. tally in 2005 still eclipsed 1960.

Jerry - no spare spindles here, only 1 spare drum but it’s in rough shape. Will update when I dig it out.

I really appreciate it. I found a spindle at a salvage yard and found some hubs that might work to move this off the trailer at least. So at this point, don’t go through all that effort. Thanks so much for the help. Does anyone know how different a 2 door frame is as compared to a 4 door frame?

Any 364-401-425 Dynaflow will bolt to your engine. '53-'56 will not. As far as bolting to the torque tube, ask Telriv.
