Ok, so that calculates to 27.05" tall.
    It's an automatic, right?
If so, the taller tire would slow engine RPM down to 3850-4000 rpm range.

Yep, don't underestimate the 350 Buick, while not the monster the 455 is as far as torque, its still a torque monster in the 350 world:cool:

On Friday I had time to go to mission raceway......weather was iffy, but being eager wanted to take a chance - Nando this was last minute as weather has been up in the air as you know around vancouver. Long and short - packed up, drove out and street legal were cancelled account weather. At least I know where the track is, where tech is etc for next time.

    So stay tuned

Man, I just looked at Vancouver's weather forecast for next week.
I'm sittin' here in the sun (approx. 150 miles south) and you guys are gettin' hit with rain almost all week.
    What the heck?! It's July!
Anyway, looks like Monday, Tuesday and Saturday are all partly cloudy but otherwise dry next week....let's hope Johanna Wagstaffe agrees with me (and Google). =)

I took my 72 stock 35o GS the first time a year ago and ran 15.4s I got bit by the bug and put a TA Stage one intake on it. Rebuilt performance level quadrajet by Everyday Performance. Pertronix ignition setup. Bored 30 over block. Port matched heads. TA 290-94H cam. 3:42 gears with 2700 stall, shift kit and drag slicks. I shift thru the gears at 5-5200 rpm. Ran a best ever 13:98 in 1/4. My consistent run times are 14:2s No headers dual exhaust.

    stangman,

Just curious...why Pertronix ignition over factory HEI?

No problem, Brad. July has been hit or miss, so far, on the weather.

    Nando.

Well it was another iffy day on Friday in Vancouver ...... was light rain/heavy mist till 1:45 pm on Friday. Was said to be dry at mission raceway, so we went for it. What a blast! First time for me in legal quarter mile racing. So got a few tips, first run, amazed the tires spun some, so dropped air pressure and did a short dry brake stand. So best I could get the gs350 to run was 16.18 at 84 miles per hour.......she just doesn’t have the ponies to push harder. Car ran great, no bog or hesitation, 32 degrees timing all in by 3200 rpm. Even with improved 60 foot times, roughly the same eta after 4 runs.....so I decided to stop flogging the old girl, now I have a baseline for the stock low compression 72 GS. Makes me want to take my Olds w30 4 speed car to the track......too expensive of a car to flog, as traction would be a major issue. I Know you guys say these 350,s are torque monsters.......really a 455 is a torque monster.....I’ve been spoiled driving a 461 olds making 500 plus ft lbs torque at rear wheels for years now. The Buick 455 build will come, we will take her back to the track, hope to run in the 12s.
    So there’s the update!

If not posi it will spin away the ET...like the magazine tests.
My 71 GS conv went 15.7 with 3.08 open but I had 26in slicks on it.
Added 71 455 carb, tuned dist, 36deg timing with 50-50 Cam2 110/93 and it went 15.10 still with the 3.08s. 3.42 posi would have put it in the 14s.

Guys - it has 3:42 posi, moser 30 spline axles, custom rear control arms, polyurethane and Johnny joint bushings. I don’t think the timing will help much, converter is stock and very tight. Going to 21 psi, a quick brake stand worked pretty good with the 255 60/15 TA’s.......it’s just a 350 smog low compression motor......it has to last a while yet. Sure some minor tweaks might gain a couple 1oths......but it’s heavy low powered car....just wanted to see what she would do. This winter the turbo 400 will be built, a tri shield 9.5 inch converter go in the car for the final piece - 455 with stage 2 TA heads......then we will see what she can run. Appreciate the feed back and input.

IIRC, my stock 72 GS 350/auto ran almost exactly that same time at the '85 Nationals with the 3.08's and 8?k miles. I was 18 y/o and knew nothing so no tuning per se although the guy I'd bought it from 6 mos. earlier had a few cars and he did take it to the track so maybe he'd tuned on it. I think the '71 or 72 that Kenne-Bell did the testing on also ran right around the same time initially. By the end they had gotten well into the 12's as I recall.
