turbo 400, transgo 2 kit, adjustable modulator.....tranni shift from 1-2 within 20 feet at light to medium throttle 2-3 is right at 30 mph....happy with that. Adjusting modulator won’t get me where I need to be. The tranni is from a 1970 Pontiac 455...short tail shaft PA code.... Do I need to modify the valve body to get a later 1-2 shift? Thanks
It shifts perfect at wot - 4900 1-2, 2-3.....that was after modifying weights some. You can shake the governor and hear it moving...the valve.
Well to make an upshot gov pressure has to over come the modulator pressure inside the valve body......so if it appears everything else is working correctly with the governor we need to look at the modulator valve behind the modulator. Is the shift kit a new install???? Missing check ball????
Mine will shift pretty quickly 1-2, 10-11 MPH, and 2-3 at about 28 MPH. That is light to moderate throttle, normal stop and go traffic. At the track, with sticky tires, it will go to ~50 MPH 1-2, and ~80MPH 2-3. In general, the more you are into the throttle, the higher it will shift, but on the street with regular tires and this converter, the tires go up in smoke if you try to extend the shift points by rolling into the throttle. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks Larry and Ben. I’d be happy shifting 1-2 at 10 mph.....tranny is shifting to 2nd far less than that. Again all of this is at light to moderate throttle. Wot, manually shifting is good. The tranny builder wants to put a stronger spring in the 1-2 valve......if that makes any sense. I believe that is what he mentioned. He wants me to pull out the valve body for this. This will be a winter project.
