Well here it is... I got a 71 GSX cheap on ebay without the box.. so I didnt mind cutting it apart...Im making a replica of my of my 72 GS 350 convertible. I got out the dremel tonight and removed the roof.

I shaped the windshield pillars until I thought they looked good.
I removed the spoiler, and hood tach. I'll have to fill the holes left behind.
doors and hood are removed along with the door panels and rear view mirrors.

To make it more like a 72, Ill paint rubber strips on the front bumper and around the rear tail lights.

    PS..............
I need a convertible boot. I have been watching eBay for a Chevelle convertible, but who wants to pay over $20 shipped so I can remove that one part. Anyone have a 1/18 Chevelle convertible they want to get rid of cheap?
Or better yet sell me just the boot?

Ill post more pics as I get them.

Its now in primer. I took off all plastic parts I could. Filled in the holes where I removed the spoiler and tach.

    On to the paint...

thats what my end result should look like hopefully. But that particular one goes for around $50 on eBay, if you can find it.... and I would still want plain red paint, and a black interior... and a $50 model is too expensive for me to play with like that...believe me, I've been looking at those....

Got some time last night to continue.
I detailed / painted the engine components, trans, exhaust, gas tank...
When I find a convertible boot from a chevelle, and make it fit, I'll be able to paint the body...

My 71 Chevelle destined for deconstruction came in the mail today...

I didnt realize it has working suspension both front and rear!! Can I put this on the Buick? Maybe getting too deep...

Anyway, I finished the rough body work to fit the boot from the chevelle.

The first shot is all 3 cars together. I had two 71 GSX cars, one of which I removed the roof and is main reason for all this trouble.
Second one is the boot fitted to the Buick. I guess I will have to use model glue or epoxy to hold it in place once complete. Fits well considering the Buick is Ertl and the Chevelle was Maisto(sp)
Third shot is of the console in the chevelle... its like a Buick automatic shifter! Going to see if I can incorporate that into mine.
Fourth is another shot of the Boot in place
Fifth is a picture of the buick body on the chevelle chasis. I got it to fit with the working suspension! Thats gonna have to be model number 2 as I want to finish the convertible first.

I have 1:18 Scale Convertible tops from a GMP / 1970 GTO if you decide you want to display it in a "Top Up" version.

Shipping to you would be around $5.00 via Priority Mail so if you're interested let me know and I'll let you have one for the price of the shipping.

Keep up the good work! !

Looking very good Curtis. :TU: Will you try to redo the decals on the air-cleaner too?

I thought about trying to redo the air cleaner decals. At walmart the other night they had a software package in the hobby section where you make your own stickers and strips etc. I may consider it so that I can actually put the GS 350 sticker on it...

I haven't been able to get time to work on it in the last few weeks but will keep pictures coming when I get a chance...

Curtis you are going to cost me money and time . I have a 1/18 GSX that I display when I show my car . It came the right color to match mine so it makes a nice addition at the shows . Now I have got to take it out of the display case and detail it similar to yours . What did you use to paint the booster and master cover ? Thanks for the idea .

I bought a Testors Paint Kit at Walmart. $9 if I remember correctly. Has like 7 colors in it and thinner. The small bottles that you usually buy single. Just plain gold and silver for the master cylinder and booster. Very easy to paint with a small brush, doesn't run like you think.

I tried taping some things up like the coolant reservoir and that made it worse. The paint would bleed under the tape. Painted it by hand much better.

I'm using the Testors spray can Bright Red to paint my model. Painted it last night.... ended up with a lot of dust in the paint... wet sanded it today, second coat of red.. and it wrinkled.. i cant win... will wet sand again and give it another go...

    More pictures to come

That paint lifting is due to paint being enamel and i will keep lifting itself . Sand it and mist a coat of primer on it lat that cure and another coat of primer then should be safe to paint color . Found that out many years ago painting cars .

I completely stripped the diecast when I primed it the first time with paint stripper. The primer didn't stick the best but after a week seemed to cure nicely.

Then I painted, and had dust and painted again and ended up with wrinkles.

So I will give it a shot. I'll wet sand the whole thing again and prime a couple coats.
maybe I will even strip it to metal again. and wetsand the bare diecast and it may stick better.

Is there another kind of paint you recommend? I thought about getting a body shop to mix me up a spray can of my paint but I don't know for sure what paint is on my real car and the only body shop I know is closed on the weekends so I cant get a spectra analysis done.

Would a close red from autozone or pepboys work better? I don't think those are enamel?

If you had used a lacquer first then recoated it then no lifting . NOw if you put lacquer on it a big mess . . Just thought about this , try soaking the car in Simple Green that should loosen the paint like a paint stripper then you can use something like gray scotch brite to rub the paint off . After that wet sand and put a coat of primer on sand and paint . Cut scotch brite in half before stripping to use second half to sand primer with . Not trying to make this complicated just trying to help you get the finished product you want . If primer is lacquer then you can topcoat with lacquer in touch up section of auto parts store

Good Idea, I think I will go back to bare metal, and prep it better for primer. Ill pick up a lacquer primer and paint this week. To tell the truth thats probably whats on it now :Do No: under the enamel spray. :Do No:

    I'll check it out!

Who knew this could be complicated?

    Thanks man
    I will post my results

    Curtis ,
I found a site for paint for your scale car if you want to match your 1:1 car . It is /www.paintscratch.com/ . They can get you anything you want , but you need to know your paint code . Yes I can complicate things . Just think what we go through when getting our cars ready to paint and painting then polishing . :bla:

    Sorry Mike,
The auto console I have is from a 71 Chevelle and is similar to the Buick auto shifter. Its the only one I have. watch ebay for 1/18 chevelle cars or parts, they are out there. you might get a whole car for under $10
