What a pita. The auto stop/ start stopped working on Jens Rubicon. It's such a horrible feature on a new car I would of just left it disabled but it keeps throwing up warning messages on the dash.

The stupid thing is buried under the huge fuse box under the hood. All the bus connectors had to come off, the bottom of the fuse box, then another panel. And under all that plastic resides what amounts to a lawn and garden battery.

There's another way by going from underneath by removing the wheel liner but then you have to drill out a bunch of rivets. Or you can leave the rivets in place and remove the plastic fender flare. But don't break any of the white plastic clips because you cant buy them separately, only with the fender.

So it's basically six of of or half a dozen of the other. After weighing the options, going in from the top was the best. And people wonder why it's so expensive to get your car fixed

Our 15 Grand has a huge assed battery under the passenger seat and luckily ours dont have the start/stop bs,the air suspension or the LED headlights. All of these options are spendy and a pain to work on.

That's probably the reason that the auto start/spot gimmick quick working in our 2019 Grand Cherokee, about a year ago. I know that little power sports battery is under the passenger seat behind the regular battery, and does not look tough to do, but I like that fact that it stays running unless I shut it off, and it hasn't come up with any codes yet.

I do have to take the seat apart and get the head rest fixed. The pad part popped out. There's a metal pin held by some plastic framework on the back side of the cushion part. It broke where the pin goes through it. The whole system is part of some kind of impact feature that keeps your head from slamming into the headrest in a rear collision. o_O

you can thank the EPA for stop start on newer cars less pollution at red lights
Of coarse you may have to buy starters more often
Why warranty’s cover part of emissions control

When my wife and I bought our ‘17 Durango, the Stop/Start was one more reason we said no to the v6.

I just had this done about a month ago on my 2021 Gladiator diesel under warranty. The little power wheels battery is immediately under the main battery. Sounds like the diesel is a little different setup than the 3.6?

(If anyone is coming out to Moab for Easter Jeep Safari, give a shout out. )

You should see where it is on a Mercedes conv. Under back seat below all conv top stuff! Almost 2 hours book time to replace.

Wifey's '18 Wrangler's 'toy' battery pooped out too. I opted for a Genesis dual group 24 kit that replaced the baby battery. It kept the STOP-START bug away for about a year. Now the STOP-START occasionally locks the transmission out and we have to turn the car off/on to get it to shift again.

Our daughter's TJ Wrangler doesn't have ANY such problems.

Good to know, thank you! Our 19 Grand Cherokee has that same system. It quit shutting off at lights for a while, until we took it for a long drive (Florida to Colorado to South Carolina and back to Florida). About half way through the trip it started working again. Must have charged up that little battery enough.

Grand Cherokees S/S feature can be disabled by disconnecting the little wire running to the neg battery terminal, it just unplugs. I've been running mine like that for over 4 years now with no issues. I just reconnect it if I have to bring it in for service, except 1 time I forgot and was expecting to hear about it from them but nothing was said. I'm not sure if Rubicons are the same but I know it works on the smaller Cherokees too. The only thing is the auto start/stop icon stays on whenever engine is running. Doesn't bother me none.
