I wonder if this car might have been "restored" to a white Stage 1 GS car? I feel like I saw one for sale on here that came from japan?
Is the yellow one with the brown interior the GSX production car Hi-Performance Cars magazine tested called the "Electric Banana"?
Hello Guys, I saw this post I do know the owner of the Japan bought GSX he bought it in 2007 on eBay. The seller on eBay said that it had a rod knock, but after it was shipped in it was actually flywheel bolts that were loose. The car collect he bought it from in Japan had several GSXs. One of them being the car shipped to Canada for the auto show that was a yellow automatic, he thought is was car #5 . He did tell me that the collector in Japan bought the car from a guy in California, he thought it was bought sometime in the 80's. If you guys have any questions you want me to ask him, let me know, he does not do the whole online thing.
While we're on the subject of the performance of the Japan GSX, it's noteworthy to compare the 1/4 miles times to the well known (By Buick guys) Motor Trend test of January 1970 where their X ran 13.38 @ 105 MPH! So, where did the extra 50 HP, give or take, come from? Is the real inside story of that car known?
http://buickgsx.com/gsxartarch.htm That car is the one that impressed Joe Oldham. That road test is in this book, https://www.amazon.com/Buick-Muscle-Cars-1963-1973-Clarke/dp/1855205343 It's also in Joe Oldham's book, https://www.amazon.com/Muscle-Car-Confidential-Confessions-Driver/dp/0760328315
If you feel my question was a hack of the thread I apologize and will be glad to remove it. Otherwise, the question is still relevant since a Stage 1 GSX and a Stage 1 GS are virtually identical as to their drivetrains.
In order not to confuse our GSX's, the car Joe Oldham tested was a saturn yellow X, not the white one in question in this thread. He does mention in the book that the yellow one he tested was on display at the NY Auto show and he had to wait till the show ended to take possession of it.
What would you call this car? I've been pondering this for a few days. Pilot car? I would think GSX #1 or #2 would earn that. I think this car deserves the "prototype" moniker more than Brad's car. I agree, Brad's is a show car. This is the closest thing to a prototype
No problem, Ray. I just wanted to clarify it so people wouldn’t be looking for a Motor Trend road test of a GSX doing a 13.38 when it was actually a GS.
Hello, I currently own the White Stage 1 from Japan. Does anyone know if this one was from the same collecter in Japan? I am trying to find as much history as possible. I may never sell the car, but will always try to learn more about it for historical information.
