Anyway to tell if a 1972 GSX is real?

And as I have always heard, ALL 44 were shipped to Canada, this one was not according to the Window sticker, making it more doubtful IMO.

The best thing to do would be to get the rush service documentation from the Sloan Museum.

There are couple of red flags with the photocopied window sticker but the most obvious is that it is not a '72 window sticker format. That is a '70 model window sticker format. There have been documented examples of leftover windows stickers being used on a different year model but this one is two model years old which is really fishy.

Sorry to beat this into the ground but to answer your original question even without the window sticker it can be determined that this car is not a factory built '72 GSX if the paint code is 63 63 burnished copper as you mentioned. All five of the Burnished Copper GSXs built in '72 had a vinyl top. So this car definitely isn't a GSX but there is still a possibility that it might have had a rear spoiler, front spoiler, and/or a hood tach but don't trust the photocopied window sticker as proof.

I'd love to find one in any color that orig. had a black vinyl top.

Be careful what you wish for. A bunch of these cars came with black/white walls, volcano wheel covers, and a chrome mirror. Some of the 72 GSX color/ interior combinations are not pretty.

To a guy like me that makes them even prettier, sick of brown and green cars from that era.

Some of those top combos don't seem all that great either. I might have a hard time keeping the volcanos on a GSX:). I definitely find it interesting however how these cars were ordered. Wait 'til I call you for decals for my '70 350 4-sp car. You'll love that one, lol.

    Yeah,
Quite a few of the early cars were ordered with two different specific option lists. The only difference being that every one of these cars came with a different Interior/Exterior color.

It must have been crazy seeing a bunch of cars with the exact same options but in different colors.

I always figured these cars were destined to have Cregars put on, so they were ordered from the factory with the cheapest wheel options they could get, as they were being replaced once they hit the dealerships.
