So I told his mom (my bride) - that I gave up a car i loved (read stage 1) to buy a car that I don’t want anything to do with. She said - just go look, I said, you know what happens when I go look at a car............ rained out today, so I am safe for a few days....
Since I last reported Matt’s cancer there has been much that has changed. His bride (Kamie) has been on a terror on providing Matt options for treatment. Matt did buy the 2019 ZL-1 Camaro with the LE 1 Package. I did not “buy” into it. At this point, Matt has had 4 Chemo treatments. They have been very difficult for him - he has lost all of his hair (not a big deal in the scheme of things) he has a sensitivity to cold, he has to wear gloves to touch anything other that room temperature. Matt has had intense pains in his hands as well. On the bright side, he is scheduled for Liver resection, Ablation and a Hepatic pump which will inject Chemo directly into his Liver. This procedure will take place at the Sloan - Kettering (SP) Cancer Center in NY on October 14th. He will be in NY for 10-11 days for surgery and follow up. The Team @ MSK has told Matt that they have some confidence that they can get him to remission within 12 months. His primary Oncologist here in MN gave him 24 months or less to end of life. (Matt no longer works with him) Unfortunately, his 6 year old daughter was exposed to COVID on Monday of this week - so for the next week or so, Matt will be staying in our barn until she get’s an all clear test. (Matt is in the 14 day window to surgery). Matt did get his booster shot last week - but due to his compromised immunity there can be no chances taken. My bride and I would like to thank you all for your support and prayers. In a world that is so lopsided and out of control, the support and prayers that you have offered is immeasurable to us. It is important to Gail and me that you know how much it is appreciated. Byron
Thank you - Matt had his Liver surgery in New York 2 weeks ago today. They ablated 8 tumors and resected 2 and installed a Hepatic pump which will feed Chemo directly into this Liver. They also removed his gallbladder and appendix. Yesterday he was able to walk around the block - he said he didn’t know if he would make it back. Overall, Matt has a great attitude and is looking forward - his wife continues to make things happen for him. He goes back to NY to Sloan for loading of the pump - he will also begin systemic chemo for a minimum of 6 months. We continue to be prayerful, hopeful and appreciative of the prayers and thoughts from this board and all the other folks that are in prayer chain. We are humbled by the caring - thank you - Byron
Thank you, Matt & Kamie go back to NY to Sloan Kettering on Tuesday of next week. They will perform scans and recharge the Hepatic Pump - then begin systemic Chemo. So every month he has to go to NY for recharge, in between Matt will receive Chemo here in Minneapolis...... long, long steps - we continue to be hopeful - certainly prayerful. Thank you, Byron
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. My big brother went through this exact same thing back in 2008-2010.
