    Hello.
    I have a 1970 455 Stage 1.

Numbers matching everything right down to the distributor.

    65,xxx original miles.

Just pulled it out of the garage and tans pan has a leak in the front. 3 speed auto. Not bad. But probably enough to replace gasket and do the filter.

I’m new to Florida and this is a pretty small town (Destin area)

I don’t have the time or trust myself to do it.
Anyone have a recommendation as to who to trust? Might be interested in someone that knows what they’re doing going through it and giving a once over. Someone that knows this car.

    Long first post lol.

    And yes. Dog dishes :)

    Thanks for having me.

Heavymetal, just get under the car with a good light source. Whole car up on four jackstands recommended. If its a gasket only the pan and down would be wet. Nothing on the trans casting. If the tube is leaking its mostly on the front half of the passenger side, and the body of the trans will be wet up above the pan and down. The tube goes into a horizontal surface where fluid easily collects.

This is assuming you didn’t drive it where air flow can push leaked fluid all over. If you did drive, then clean it all off really well. Let it sit and then check for leaks a few days later

    AND WELCOME FROM CHICAGO BURBS

What a beautiful car! I love dog dishes. I’m from South Florida so I can’t help you too much, but I do believe there are a couple panhandle people and maybe they will chime in. I think in the Destin area there are a lot of UFO sightings. Sometimes those little green men really know how to work on a car. Sorry, I’m a smart azz.
Dragdoc gave a really good explanation about how it works and what you need to look for. I’m hoping for the dipstick. That would be the easiest fix. Enjoy driving that nice car!

It is on the front passenger for sure. I didn’t drive it only pulled it out of the garage and saw the puddle which it’s never done before.
Thanks for this info I’m optimistic.
    I’ll look in the morning.
How do I change the grommet I can’t find anything on line

    thank you

Is it as easy as it sounds? Will fluid come out?

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I live in the Panhandle, have floor jack, tools and will travel.

I am in Crestview, and I can come to you, or you can come to me.

I also have a pan gasket and o-rings.

Let's call it "pay it forward" and get you on the road. :)

I'll be going to Oregon Tuesday and back at the end of July.

    And.... wattsyername?

I have floor jack, jack stand, and tools. I just don’t trust myself to wrench on this car. If it was a beater maybe. Love to take you up on your offer!

Welcome from Central Florida. We have a few GS guys in this area that get together from time to time. Love that black GS with the dog dishes.
