1968 350 in a Jeep pickup. Previous owner reported some overheat issues, & said he had the engine "completely rebuilt". Truck ran fine for 100 miles or so, then blew the head gasket on the passenger side. Noticed on removing the existing gasket that all the water passages do not appear to be punched out, most notably the two large ones in the corners next to the exhaust manifold. Questions are: could this have been some of the overheating source, and do I need to punch these out of the new gasket?

These are 70 gaskets. 68 gaskets would have the same cutouts & holes except for the 2 small steam holes marked with the 2 arrows.... Screenshot_20210122-152748_Photos.jpg

This question gets asked all the time. There is nothing wrong with your head gasket. Those holes are not meant to be punched out.
