67 GS400 fan shroud fitment issues with TA motor mounts?

    Hey there folks,
I am having trouble reinstalling my original fan shroud. It fit fine when I took it out. The fan blades are making contact with the shroud now. I am guessing that it is due to the different engine orientation with TA motor mounts? I switched the mounts from oem to facilitate header installation.

Is this a known issue? I suppose there could be some oversight on my part. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

It shouldn't have changed the angle of the engine as the mounts only push the engine back about 1". Does your fan hit at top or bottom of the shroud? On my '67 I used aluminum blocks to raise the motor up for my headers. Working well so far 15+ years, but can't do a fan shroud or even the little sheet metal fan guard on radiator cover as front of motor sits to high for them.

Did you replace the rubber mounts on the engine? New ones may have raised the engine a tad.

Thanks for your replies The fan hits the top of the shroud. It just barely brushes against the top.
I replaced the rubber mounts on the engine and transmission.

Maybe I should run a smaller fan so I can use the shroud?

You really want the fan to fit the shroud for maximum air flow. Can you loosen the shroud and slip it up enough? Did you replace the body bushings/core support mounts?

Raise the rear of the transmission? You would have to check driveshaft alignment then.

I replaced the core support bushings and the shroud can't be pulled up further. How would I raise the transmission?

I was thinking----I haven't installed the header back exhaust. Maybe the full length headers are weighing it down. Connecting the full exhaust may raise the rear of the engine up a bit, no?

Make a shim for the transmission mount. Put the shim in between the mount and cross member.

Thank you all for your help. I am going to try shims.

My 67 has shims between the the trans and mount and look original. I marked them during disassembly so i would remember to put them back in. Does yours have no shims?

No, mine doesn't. I have a 4 speed. Not sure if muncies came with shims like the autos. What do you have?

Hi Larry, does it make any difference that my car is a 4 speed?

I don't know if 67's came with shims regardless of transmission. The bottom line is there is nothing to prevent you from using one especially if it solves your problem. I would check pinion angle though.

    Ok, cool. Thanks

What about shimming the core support? Would that mess up the body alignment too much? Doesn't sound like he needs a lot.

Ed - is the front (doghouse) off the car?

Mines an Auto. I'll try and take a picture and upload it. Basically between mount and trans are the 1/4 thick washers. Not shims like the traditional one's were use to.

Nope, the front clip is back on and panels are aligned.
