Racers.......which converter company have you had good luck with? Anybody out there you would stay away from? Looking for recommendations to have a converter built to get a 10.0 3800# GS rolling better.

    I. have been a dealer for continental torque converters for 12 years. they build a very quality converter. out of all the converters i have sold the only come backs are the ones we send for freshing up. converters are expensive so i would not send anyone to a shop i do not know much about. their # is 310-674-1072 ask for kris.

    Hey Keith

    Gary went a 1.31.

Call Coan and ask for Craig. Tell him to give you what I have. You will like it.

Now wait a second -- from all the reading I've done on the Hemi-Shootout, I thought you said have converter issues? :Do No:

PTC - Muscle Shoals, AL - Ask for Kenny Ford. He even races a Buick himself! He nailed my converter the first time.:TU:

Kenny Ford is one hell of a guy. He has taken care of me many times with different projects.

    Andy,

It was custom built. If you are going to buy new, have it built to your specs.

I have an ATI 9" (possibly for sale) that is similiar with very little use, if interested. I'm in the Plainfield/Joilet area.

Carl Creque (also local to us) borrowed it for some testing and can attest to it being a good piece.

If I recall it was about a 4000 - 4500 stall behind 600ish HP. My cam had very similar profile to the 308S as well. Carl had a closer to 700HP and I think the stall for him was closer to 5000.

Ask Jim what he thinks a fair price is for a used convertor and if interested PM me an offer.

The cheap side $$$ of me, thank God lost out, (thanks Doug he loves to spend my money:) ) Bucked up and well worth it. My car though not heavy 3080 w/me dropped a clean tenth in the sixty foot times on just the convertor swap, didn't notice any rpm change threw the traps. Dropped from mid to high 1.30's to mid to high 1.20's still crossing at 7,000 rpm's

I faxed over all the stats and dyno numbers to them and they made one up. Never had to send it back for any adjustments.

I have 2 1970 GS cars. One is the red Stage 1 and 1 is a blue Stage 2, in this thread. Look at Mike Garrisons post, its post #13. Do you think he would like my converter?

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=119868

Keiths car is a lot like my Stage 2 car, and he would like the converter that is in that car.

The red cars converter is out and back at Coan. It was not right for the combination.

Johns' converter is a great piece. My motor dynoed at 598 hp and around 594 ft lbs of torque and the car weighs 3567 race ready. Instead of buying Johns converter I ordered a custom built Coan for a lot more money. There was no performance difference between the two converters. Johns' converter stalled at about 4200 in my car on the brake. It should be fine in any car around 600 hp and between 3500 and 4000 pounds. It may stall a little lower with less torque.
