Well my financial guy suggested I patent my hood design since I've sold over 22 already and have at least that many on the waiting list. So after three months I can finally say it's "Patent Pending" When I started building these hoods I didn't think you could patent a hood design, but after more research and actually talking to a patent lawyer, you can. Go figure!
Looking to be placed on list also, not sure details of how the list works but would love to get one of these hoods.

only 28 ahead of me. So looking forward to getting one of these hoods. Another year of JR street with my Son, then it'll be time to go faster! Will be some good weigh loss from the steel hood for sure!
Good to here! After I get back from the Beaver Springs race I may play with my layup on the hood and see if I can knock a few pounds off of one without sacrificing strength. I’ve tweaked it some over the years, the one on my car is a brick compared to the others, it’s 10 pounds heavier I keep saying I’m gonna make myself a light one but then I feel guilty and just sell the next guy in line instead!
Wicked news about the patent pending! I’d like to jump in line for one as well. Long ways for my build yet so happy to wait some, but been thinking about this long enough. Awesome work!
List has been updated. I've completed the underside piece for the next hood and just sprayed the gelcoat into the mold to start hood layup tomorrow. I had to take a break from the fiberglass to get some work done in the house. We're remodeling two rooms upstairs. One is a TV room for me (man cave!) and one is a craft room for my wife. The TV room is complete and I'll work weekends on the wife's room. Fiberglass work during the weekdays. I picked up a steel 70 front bumper at the recent GS Nationals. After some dent and surface rust repair, it's been sprayed with primer gelcoat and buffed out in preparation to create the mold. As a side note, I'm not putting this in front of hoods, I just work on it when I'm waiting on gelcoat or resin to cure that's been put on the hood molds. Today, right before I sprayed in the gelcoat. This mold has held up well over 10 years! Just one recoat and buff.
In the case of making a mold for a new project, such as my Riv hood, how long does it take from start to finish where its ready to make a new part
Brie, it depends on what you want for a finished product. I assume you’re talking about a hood similar to the one you made using that center section I sold you. If the steel hoods in pretty good shape I’d say it take about 2 weeks to make the mold for just the top part. If you want something that uses the inner framework for the hinges and the latch it gets a little more complicated because you just can’t copy the factory framework because it doesn’t take into account the raise section of the hood that will now be there. I’d say that would probably take probably another 2 to 3 weeks. Then you have to build the hood and test fit it and make sure everything‘s right it doesn’t take much to make the hood misaligned. Let me know what you’re thinking about. I’m going to be headed down to see my mom next month maybe I can swing by and we can look at what you have and what you want to do.
The objective is to have a 1 piece hood that looks like what I have without the flaws caused by the bonding of the glass to the steel. No matter how much time and materials that were put into the project the seams can still be seen in certain lighting. Depending on timing and weather I can meet ya somewhere along the way if you dont want to make that much of a detour.
