Anybody know a company that will ship a fully dissambled car?

I'm purchasing a car from Kentucky and need to ship it to California, but the problem is that it'd fully disassembled.

Does anyone know of a company that will do this?

I would probably check into have it and all the parts loaded into a shipping container then pretty much anyone could haul it

 

Get a pod, load it all in and move it to your house and unload it.

I’ve done it. You need a private hauler. Basically a truck with an enclosed trailer. Yes,more expensive,but worth it.

 

Sean Ryder used to do stuff like that (not sure how disassembled they could be) but he got out of the hauling business. I was just recently thinking that there's probably a need for a service like this in the old car hobby w/all the projects that get sold but it wouldn't be cheap depending on how much work was involved in loading it all & of course the distance. That's but one of many reasons ppl need to realize they're going to take a huge hit selling a project. Seems like it be kinda fun if one didn't mind living on the road. If I had nothing else to do... I picked up one a few years back about 4 hours away & it was two trucks/2 trailers to get it all & took two of us several hours to get it all loaded but a good time was had by all. Chalk it up among the many (too many to remember) old car adventures.

 

How disassembled is it? It it rolls it can be easily shipped. I’ve done it twice. Then pallet up the stuff that doesn’t fit in the car and ship it using “uship” companies bid on the shipping it’s very very low cost. Shipped an engine and 200 pounds of parts for $200 about 900 miles away.

 

When, from where in Kentucky and to where in California? It’s possible.

 

Pleaae Lmk if you're going to CA & have room to bring stuff back. Right now is just some parts (a couple doors) but I'm looking for a complete floor (tailpanel to cowl) from a '71 (or '72 if need be) or maybe a whole parts car. I'm in MD but you're a whole lot closer than CA & not too far past the Nationals.

Maybe try craigslist in Ky for a private "long distance hauling" listing. You might get lucky finding an individual with a truck & trailer looking for a paid road trip.

 

Fly out, rent a uhaul cube van and a car trailer. Fill cube van full of parts, put car on trailer, hook trailer to cube van, drive home, unload car and parts, drop off cube van and trailer, take taxi home.

 

That's exactly what I did with a 65 GS and a truckload of extra parts.

 

I agree with Sean and William on the Uship recommendation. I used this service to move my mom's stuff from Buffalo New York to Seattle.

If possible you should actually go on site and load the container yourself, and then they will take it away on a truck. Much more reasonable price than any other service I could find and everything came through on time (trackable on line) and intact. I did the packing though, so if there was a problem, it would be my fault.

I believe it was about $1800

 

Might have to put the body on the frame (I had to do that once at the seller's place to avoid 2 trips or 2 trailers) but the U-Haul/Penske sol'n is probably the best really.
