Solid roller lifters for 300?

From reading past posts it sounds like the Johnson roller lifters are the most reliable? But apparently they do not have a listing for the 300 for solid lifters.

If TA lists a solid roller lifter for the 215-300-350, I'd say there is a Johnson lifter that will work just fine though Johnson may not list it. When I swapped over to Johnson lifters from the Morels, I got them from JW. Pretty sure they didn't list it for the BBB. The push rod cup depth was different, so I needed to use a different length push rod. You'll need to do that anyway.

What do you suppose is the difference between the light duty and the heavy duty? (TA1413-2 and TA1413-3) I'm planning about .500 lift due to street use and the blower. Max spring pressure at full lift would be about 335#.

Is there a particular reason to use the Johnson lifters rather than TA?

The TA lifters might be the Johnson lifters. I would call them. The Johnson lifters I am using are much quieter than the TA Morels I was using before.

When I called TA to order the Johnsons the box they came in was labeled SBC.

I don't think solid rollers will be quiet anyway, compared to hydraulics.:)
No such thing as quiet solids.

Yes, but Mark and I are referring to the hydraulic lifters. The Johnson lifters are better hydraulic lifters. Not sure who makes the solids that TA sells. That's why I told Jim to call TA and ask. Yes, solids will not be as quiet as hydraulic.

    Yeah I know.
I kind of like the clatter that solids make.:)

They are fine if you are willing to put in a little time adjusting the lash every now and then.

Yes, go with the Johnsons, After reading Larrys post awhile back. and then the issues I was having with the Morels pumping up, then bleeding down...... While driving:eek: Then reading about Johnsons quality control, I was convinced to go Johnson, especially reading about needle bearings falling out, jamming the roller then ruining the cam.
I puckered up and spent another 900.00 for the Johnson rollers AND new pushrods AGAIN:(
Ironic thing is, the Morels are thought to be the saving grace in the Turbo Buick world, suppose to be dead quiet compared to Comp Cams rollers.
Years ago when I went roller on my GN, the cam and lifters came from IIRC, Precision Turbo and Engine, the lifters are quiet, even on start up after sitting for weeks or months, I hear a very very soft "ch ch ch" for a second, and they're pumped up ready to go, they must be Johnsons too:cool:
