Can someone provide a clear pic of where the balance line enters the rear of the block and terminates in the lifter galley? Ty, JIM
Devil's advocate here.....any downsides to sending more oil there rather than where it would normally go? Also, wouldn't oil in that line get hot right next to header? I'm the don't mod it mindset if everything seems to be working OK for me......
Bruce, there is a lot more information in this thread. My line runs just about even with the valve cover gasket surface. I doubt there is any significant heat added to the oil through the braided line. Might be more conduction in a solid metal line that is below the exhaust. According to JW, the line reduces strain on the pump which is a good thing. Read through the thread. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/oil-pressure-equalization-line.293955/#post-2430258
I was actually looking for that thread, I read on facebook someone said I never did the testing.. I swear I did.. glad you found it.. I updated the content of the thread a touch, as I have gained greater understanding of what is going on, since the time of that posting. JW
I am curious as to the routing at the back of the block. Why not drill thru on the passenger side instead of taking the longer route on the drivers side?
I'm doing another 482 now, I'll check the machine shop to see if the line has been done yet. That is how we do it, drill a hole in the block web near the passenger side lifter galley directly up to the galley and use a 90de fitting
Seems that driver's side routing gives a little more support to the line by routing it through that second hole in that boss not available on the passenger side. Also, you have more room for the T fitting for your oil pressure tap, and the 90* fitting for the turn up the passenger side of the motor. I had enough trouble attaching my oil pressure line to that T fitting with the A/C box in place. Having it even lower would have made it more difficult.
I was planning on putting my T closer to the middle of the engine above the trans bell housing like where the yellow cross is in this pic. Easier access point in my opinion.
Great, I have the braided line setup from a previous engine but am not fond of the look and will run a hard line on the current engine. What diameter tubing do you use? Steel or stainless?
