Finished this hood up this weekend. Just need to do the final trimming and test fit it on my car tomorrow.

Just reading about this & your bumpers makes me want to build a racecar. Nice work you do!
Much of WV is like no-man's land when it comes to LTL shipping. Very few large carriers have service there so oftentimes it winds up on an interline carrier who's then handing it off to national or even another regional carrier & that gets expensive quickly. I used to ship into WV a few times a year and FedEx Freight had the best service/pricing & no interline carriers. The key w/any LTL carrier to/from anywhere is to find the carrier(s) looking for freight in/out on particular lanes where they're light. The LTL companies wind up hauling a lot of empty trailers & if they can put anything in them they'll discount the rates pretty heavily just to help cover costs - It varies carrier to carrier and lane to lane depending on who/where their biggest customers are. I'd start w/FedEx & hammer the rep on this point. They know this and if they know that you know... Also try to get them to give you a "pallet rate" based on your particular packaging for these (they won't want to but again, be persistent). If they base the rate off the NMFC Class I'd imagine it'll be a pretty high class (prob. CL125 or higher) which also drives the cost up. The less floor space you can take up (not easy w/hoods) the more likely they are to give you a better rate (even better if short & compact as they can put a 2nd tier above it but w/a hood you have one or the other).

Also, you're not too far from Hagerstown, MD (I was originally thinking Beckley, WV which is middle of nowhere). Hagerstown is big freight hub (think I-70 & I-81 cross there) and if you took a few shipments at a time there it may be worth looking at rates out of there (of course adding in your time/cost, etc.) or if you wind up coming to Baltimore for supplies sometimes rates are good out of there because of the port - A lot of co's. export out of Baltimore so there's often a lot of capacity (i.e. empty trailers) heading out. Again, it all depends on the carrier/lane.

Dano, I did end up going with Fed Ex Freight out of Hagerstown. It only took me 30 minutes to get to the terminal. so that wasn't too bad. What does the freight class actually indicate, mine is listed as 250. No freakin' idea what it means, it's been like that the whole time I've been sipping these things!

The higher the class, the higher the cost. It's a dumb system. Everything has a class. I can ship something as class 70, but if I call it something else (technically still correct), it'll go through as class 60. I can ship something as class 70 but the same exact shipment dimensionally but less weight could be class 120 depending on the commodity. CL 250 is high (understandable on a large fiberglass part). Depending on (the efficiency of) your packaging wrt floor space, see if you can a get a "pallet rate."

I would like to be added to the list with air box . I will be a pick up and be singing “Country Roads “ all the way there.

    ps. I’m 67 so if it’s a long wait and I don’t answer your p.m. I might be dead .

I had that experience w/a customer. He knew it was going to be a long wait. Called and his wife said (in a southern draw) "he died."

No sh*t, now I feel guilty for not getting the hoods out even quicker :( Hang in there Dennis and I'll get to you! I'll add you to the list.

Yes, I've made a 70 GS front and a 2 rear bumpers for Mike at TA for his wagon years ago, and just made the mold for a rear 71 GS/Skylark. The first bumper from that mold is at a members place right now being test fit. May make some molds for 70 GS's this winter.

I would be interested in 1970 GS front and rear bumpers. Is there any way to make them with tabs to mounts all of the lights?

Brian are you referring to this horizontal area that holds the parking light? Is so yes when I make a mold I try and copy every part of the item unless it’s just a royal PITA! This is a 70 bumper I made probably 30 years ago! 85EE7FE5-689F-4AEC-AB09-78F2A28BD537.jpeg
