Good job, Greg! Yeah...I'm thinking Briz is probably going to want to slit his arm open again and have you stitch it for him. lol

Looks great Greg. I’ll ship you a few sticky 15” wheels to practice on.

Is the wrap leather or vinyl?

It is leather. I was tempted to turn it inside out and make it suede but it had some marks that wouldn't brush out.

I took Shifty (the name given to my 4-speed car by my wife) out for a drive with the new wheel and it feels pretty good.

Now a bit of a RANT:
In another note, I asked for scummy, sticky wheels in a Buick swap meet page on FB. Some guy got butthurt when I wouldn't immediately give $45 for one that was gouged really bad because I already had two on the way I wanted to work on first. He called BS on the two. I'm so glad this place exists. FB is a cesspool of folks with nothing better to do than be butthurt.

I'm not trying to do this for profit or as a business. It is a hobby. I'm posting these things to maybe help someone out on what worked for me. Like the 3D printed mirror gaskets. I needed a set and figured someone else might as well. That basically paid for a case of imported beer, a couple of specialty pizzas and a small contribution to V8Buick for providing a venue.
    RANT over.

Here's a pic with my hand wrapped around it, finger between the finger numbs. I'm giving it a bit of a squeeze, I'd call it a firm grip. My hand measures almost exactly 7" between the tip of the index to the tip of the thumb stretched as far as they will go in an "L" shape. As you can see, the tip of my index finger touches the first knuckle of my thumb.

FB reaches so many people so it has advantages, but so many of the people it reaches are hard to love...

Nothing like the majority of our v8buick members!

I have been looking at some other styles. I think I'm going to try a baseball stitch with red lacing on my next attempt to see how that looks.

    Yeahs or nays?

I like the baseball stitching, but in black. If you have a custom interior with red stitching or piping in the seats, then maybe red would look better. Just my .02 cents...

OK, I ordered a WheelSkin for my next wheel. It should be a size AXX. I also built a stand so I can do it inside the house instead of in the garage.

OK, the WheelSkin brand cover has arrived. It is much heftier and the seam is sewn under instead of visible. I'm going to stretch it over the wheel to see how it fits and then pad it to start the process. They didn't give me as much thread from first glance so it is good I have extra needles and thread. We shall see how this one turns out.

The Wheelskin lacing pattern is different from the x crossover pattern you used on the prior wheel. Might contribute to using less lacing thread. Or not. Either way, this is a fun thread to follow!

I wrapped the steering wheel on my 69 Chevelle SS396 back in the 80's. If I remember correctly, I bought the leather cover in the auto department at K-Mart. I don't remember the brand. I had never done anything like this before, but I took my time and it turned out really nice. I didn't pad it, I don't think there would have been room for any padding. It had the two-spoke plastic wheel and it didn't have any cracks, I just wanted a leather cover. I guess when I sold it, the first thing the new owner probably did was take off that non-stock leather cover!

I purposedly bought the AXX wheel cover because it is supposed to fit the size of the wheel after I padded it. In testing, it has a lot of slack material when I pull the seam together now. It should go over the padding easily once it has stretched overnight.

My only hold up might be I'm also trying to vinyl side my storage shed. I've also never done that before so I'm learning as I go. COVID has been a learning experience for me.

OK, the WheelSkin is on over the padding. It is definitely tighter but it may also be a tad bigger. I may not have to put anything in the gap where the foam doesn't completely wrap the wheel due to the seam being so thick on the WheelSkin. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I'm going to let this sit for a while and get stretched into place.
