Only the driver’s side is leaking for now, so it will come off first. Depending on what we find the problem to be, may have to yank the other side too

Today is the day. Coolant leak is fixed. Engine is breaking in as I write this. Dyno pulls this afternoon!

First pull, keeping it conservative, 310 hp then went off the scale. Switching to the longer brake lever since we are clearly over 300 hp.

Second pull just made 375 hp
Having trouble with the rev limiter so we are going to mess with that for a while

410 with a ta 310 flat tappet cam? Sounds good.

Analog dyno, and I misread it in my excitement

reviewing the video clip showed more like 375 before letting off the throttle

Still pretty good numbers. Any torque readings per rpm?

We are going to have to do some work, solve a couple problems and try again, hopefully tomorrow. The biggest issue is the rpm limiter not working.
Without an effective rev limiter, very hard to do full throttle pulls on a manual dyno.
Our best torque measurement today was 428 foot pounds at 4200 rpm.

Both hp and torque should improve when we try again.
    More to come

We are going to run some more dyno tests tomorrow. I'll update as soon as I can.

    Sounds encouraging!
Not to be a downer, but is this dyno accurate and work properly?

Mark, I have no idea how to evaluate the accuracy of Dieter’s dyno. Since he has done all the machining work and engine assembly, my thinking has been to continue to trust him, his experience and equipment. His dyno is definitely a very manual, hands-on machine. It is a Stuska set-up, which I hadn’t heard of before. But it was definitely a thrill to flog the engine on the dyno stand.
So for what it is worth, here are the numbers that we measured from my build

Peak horsepower 395 at 5000 rpm
Peak torque 442.8 foot pounds at 4100 rpm

I have video of the dials and gauges from each pull, which I have reviewed over and over to get the best data that I can. I’ve put it into a Google spreadsheet And will see if I can post it here.

Chances are it has 400 foot lbs from 3200 clear to 4800. Which will make a good mid range pull. Set up rear gears to keep rpm near that range and you will have power on tap any time throttle is given. You may have more in it for tuning as the 440 plus torque seems to show. Maybe intake is holding back.
still great numbers and the 310 isn’t that big. I have the ta 310 in my convertible. SP engine near 9.7 compression stock valves. Stage 1 intake.

I've heard of that dyno, but don't know anything about it, its an oldy for sure, but that doesn't make it inaccurate tho, and if the guy knows how to operate it, that's all that matters:cool:
    You got some good numbers!
Are you going to take it to the track and see what she'll do, IF theres any tracks open yet?
I was going to put my latest build on the dyno last year, but Im glad I didn't as I had issues with crappy Morel roller lifters, they took forever to pump up, I changed 'em to Johnsons, MUCH better! So essentially my savings of not dynoing, went toward the new lifters:rolleyes:
My best so far with my new combo last year at the Buick Bash was 13.44 @ a tad over 100 mph, so that was my dyno session HAHAHA, Im not sure what that equates to in hp and torque, but I still have tuning to do.

Good HP for such a low RPM! Once you get the rev limiter setup it should run to 6500 RPM pretty easy.
