This is the linkage that came off my 69GS350 when I did my engine swap. It looks like it was replaced at one point in time. Car is a factory 4 speed (I have the matching numbers m21 and Buick 350). The previous owner swapped in a Chevy 350, I removed the Chevy 350 and put a Buick 455 in. Since it’s impossible to find most big block clutch linkage I’m just going to use the small block stuff. I’m trying to get an idea what the previous owner used and what I need to replace.
It looks like a 66 Olds 442 Type 1. Olds went to the Type 2 mid model year which changed the z bar and the push rod. The adjuster that you show is whipped. The Olds style readily available in a longer version to cover diaphragm clutches. If it was a pure Olds adjuster, it should have a swivel on it. The Parts Place carries this style set up for a 66 Olds. Look at the dimensions carefully to make sure the Olds parts transfer.
Ok, I’ll check that one out. I had no idea where these parts were from so I appreciate it. With the adjuster being whipped, is that indicative of it being too short or long? Sorry if I sound uninformed but this is my first experience with 4 speed linkage.
I’m struggling to un**** this car lol. The previous owner used a shade tree mechanic and had them do the SBC swap when the car was a complete matching numbers GS 4 speed.
Why dont you save yourself some aggravation and just order the right repro big block z bar? Mike Garrison makes the correct ball stud
I actually have a big block z bar but finding a clutch fork is a dream and if I do find one it will cost a kidney lol
The original small block clutch fork and boot is now installed on the car. I pulled the Bellhousing from the original Buick 350 and they were still attached.
Your big block z bar is not the one in the pic thats for sure. You can use a small block fork in a big block. You just have to use the right adjuster rod
That’s the one I pulled off the car...the big block zbar I bought from GS Fred awhile back. So if I used the big block zbar with the small block clutch fork which adjuster would you use?
Ok great....the zbar I got from GSFred looks different than yours unfortunately. Here’s a few pictures.
I used everything from a 71 gs 350 4 speed donor car on my 455 suncoupe project except the zbar which came off something buick pre 1970. Not sure exactly what. I was Told It was believed it was a 1967 skylark? but it fit and whatever it was it worked with no real modifications.
good to hear...hoping I can get what I have to work. I ordered the parts I need today so hopefully they’ll be here by the weekend so I can start working on it.
