I currently have a 1970 dashpot & bracket off a 455 Riviera on the for sale forum. On the back side of dashpot it has US PAT 2657038, 2862702, 2894740 FF MFG CO. Can anyone tell me for sure if it would be the same as a 1970 455 GS? I know the bracket is different. From what I've researched it may fit quite a few years and engines. It would be nice to let potential buyer know! Thanks!
Why would the bracket be different? The 455 intake on a 70 Riv is the same as the one on a 70 GS. Not sure they used that past 1970.
Oh yes I didn't think of that da. I guess I was looking at pics in service manual and they looked different. Thanks for clearing up my brainfart Larry! Where would the p/n be on the switch? I found this on it. And on the nut part of switch it has 11 11 60 PAT PEND DOLE VALVE CO MORTON GROVE ILL No p/n that I can find. I used a brass brush on it alittle. Does this mean it's aftermarket part? I've had this engine since 1985 in garage and just removed it.
Where would the p/n be on the '70 dashpot? I have too many things to ask. Getting mixed up sorry guys!
No part # on the dashpot, but it looks correct. Here's my experience Lars...used intact dashpots almost always still function. Used ported vacuum switches almost never function. I once had a friend who cut one in half vertically. Inside there are one or more small balls. The inside was all gummed up like from old oil fumes, and the passages are tiny.
I only found patent numbers on dashpot and yes it does work. Thank you very much for the info sir. I used to be a gm tech but not in the '70s. Thanks again for your time and knowledge! Jeff Kolars
You're welcome Lars. The vacuum switch is still use-able for a car. It just may not function perfectly.
The 70 looks the same to me.I have 3 of them, don't remember having that many 69's to take them out of.Just remember I got one out of a 70 Riviera a few weeks ago,its the same as that.Bruno.
