My car ran 10.05 in the quarter with a very mild engine consisting of poston 114 cam, well ported iron heads, sbc roller rockers, custom single plane intake, blow through carb and the turbos. Eventually it spun a rod bearing, the engine was fully rebuilt with a custom crower cam, and then the guy sold it to me....It must be making about 650 hp to run this time. I will test the car as it is on the chassis dyno and see what it does with more boost, and then i will put a better bottom end in it (herche rod, diamond piston, stock crank) and push it further... This street car is setup with a trans brake and will leave the line at 3800 rpm with the turbos making lots of boost, should be a wild ride.

Then later on i will test my current engine build that consists of a girdled block, billet crank, super strong rods and pistons, roller cam, external oiling, and will be ready for the alum heads and intake when they are released... I am likely the only one with a deposit on them at this point.

I am all for encouraging people to run their stuff but all you are doing is making me less likely to post up my progress, proof, HP, and timed as I go.... If you want to see me keep my info to myself then keep it up. Why would someone even bother posting their track times in the SBB section when people are freaking out about what other peoples cars aren't doing?

And about Mike Jr's testing of the single plane it has only been a few days since they were planning to dyno so lets give them some time.... The intake and heads will be released only when they are happy with them.....

Hey Sean, what rods are in the "mild" engine that came with the car?

I will bet one thing, You and that car will not show up at Norwalk to prove that 10.05 time slip.

No i am not driving accross the country to prove anything to anybody, have fun.

Of course not, we would not expect you too. You can do everything you do right from your desk. But I bet those people from NJ and farther up north and those people from Texas and those people from Arizxona will be there, but they don't have to drive as far and they are NOT here to prove anything. I thought you would be here to show off what you are doing with your project and what is going to be put in that book.

That's ok Me and Demko and maybe Andy will represent the 350 racers.

73 rods... Obviously they are right at the limits right now so I will not even run it at the track... I would not be scared to crank the boost to 20 psi and run it on the chassis dyno but I am not tempting fate at speed, it would be a mess if it let go...

A quote from the guy that bought my car..

That's interesting, I still can't get over the amountof traction I'm getting in the skylark with only me in it. I took a buddyof mine for a ride that drag races and he refused to believe I didn't have somekind of crazy drag setup on the rear suspension until he looked for himself. He agreed with my that the car feels well north of 500 horsepower andwill run 11's all day long.

My old skylark is in the paint booth today, the new owner will be ripping around in no time... He is shooting for 800 hp using custom rods and the spare diamond pistons I sold him... I will update you guys about how the car turns out.

You got that right and Sean has been on here for 10 years now and still has not built an engine and taken it to the track. Talks a lot and tells other people how to do it but he wont. Didn't you hear, the motor blew up before they got to test the intakes, accdording to Sean they did it over the Christmas holiday while they were closed.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

I never was into drag racing, my thing is highway hauling with a hot 350 in a 76 Century...

I took my 76 and drove it across my province at 17 years old for a summer job and had a massive rear main seal leak.. I limped it to the nearest town, rented a garage for a week, had my friend deliver one of my spare engines to me, swamped the engine out and carried on my way... I have had a bunch of engines in my 76 and my 73 engine with 35,000 miles is all ready to go back in after a cleaning, inspecting, and re-built. I have put 212 cams in 8:1 and 10:1 engines, done head porting, etc.

I have a few rebuilt engines here, and all the stuff to do 3 more...

I also have my girdled engine in ohio being built by a pro.

Come to think of it, TA built your engine so why get mad at me for not proving my rebuilt engines?

You can say all you want but I am staying positive!

I knew you would have an answer for that and I am not mad at you. But build an 800 HP motor for the street? What will that prove fastest street car? Disappointed is more like it. Have Fun.

Like they say, I know just enough to get me in trouble. TA does not have a dyno in house. The only time to do something like that is over a holiday when the shop is closed. Way too busy any other time. Initial thought is that the engine had been experiencing detonation at the November 22nd race. The car pretty much sat until the December 29th dyno. And unfortunately, the engine experienced problems on the dyno and oil pressure dropped considerably. Tear down was still pending last I talked to them. Slow turn-around for product development drove me crazy the entire time I worked at TA. But, as evident now after 30+ years of business it is about the only business model that has survived in this community. Their products are excellent and their hearts are in it. But, it hasn't proven possible to have a dedicated R&D or testing team.

    Dave,
Did they run the car at the track on pump gas, or did they add race fuel?

It was pump gas at both track and dyno, Mike Sr. was beating himself up about that.

Yup, mix in race gas for cheap insurance. It only has to detonate once at WOT to do damage.

Bump to the top. This is the same engine that made 480 Hp with the alum heads.

so, everything else being the same, they're worth 40hp and -100lbs? Not bad, I suppose.
