I thought the d42 ppl did a great job so far, I liked the downhill staging lanes easy to push.......heard some ppl say at higher speeds the top end gets bumpy. I didn't get a full pass last year on it and at only 120, not sure I would feel them anyways. Glad the miss shift was an easy fix......time for air or electric shifter???? We put an altronics shift system in a customers car last year. He is 75 and still liking racing but having issues shifting on time. The control panel is fairly simple, but does need 2 hands to go into reverse.....sure it's a safety thing.....they have several shift patterns they can set it up for. For me it felt great just to be in the car again after the last few years. Seems like after the wire wiggle test my egt gauge started reading correctly again. Looking forward to maybe a few passes either wed or Friday to get the tune up more dialed in if i get some temp readings Pass looked very clean...can't wait to see it when the knobs get turned up....but that pass is nothing to be ashamed of...glad all your work is settling in and working well for you
Looking good Gary.. what does that beast weigh these days.. as I recall, it's just about all steel still.. JW
Thanks Jim. It's got a glass hood and front bumper. Otherwise it's all steel with factory glass. It's also got a full interior with two racing buckets. It's now down to 3160 race ready with driver. There's more weight to take out, but I also think a 7.50 cert may be a good idea. Hopefully I can offset the extra bars with some other tasteful reduction and land 3100-ish with the extra bars.
Lookin good Gary. Sounded like you might have gotten into the chip on the big end. You still planning on running Ultra with it? As far as weight with bars, when I had the front half of the cage done last year I removed the dash and had an aluminum one built. I was hoping it would offset the extra bars, but ended up losing 13 lbs as a bonus. But I'm not sure you can do that in Ultra.
It definitely touch the limiter at 8200. Not sure that had much effect the numbers. Ultra has probably passed me by, they're going 4.60s now. If I went full tilt with my 1/8 mile set up, I might be able to go about 5.10 ... Nothing more than a filler car and really no reason to travel at that point. I'll just keep chipping away at the package and setting personal goals. The first of which is not deep staging the car, that could well have been a .49 had I not been so hasty rolling into the beams
Gary I did the same thing the other day. I am super picky about just getting the last stage bulb to flicker, was trying to bump in and didn't go deep was had to be real close, cost me with nice red bulb. But seeing it was the first time in 2 years I went any rounds and only the 6th pass in 2 years, I'm out of practice........I know it's been awhile for you too to since your been behind the wheel alot.......practice is key. Car looks sweet and runs better can't wait till you get enough time in to get the screws cranked on it
BG pass. Should've been a .40-something but between me pulling the 1-2 at 6580 instead of 8000 +/- and the top end being scary enough to have me dump the chute and lift early it only went 8.53. Best 60ft and 1/8 mile so far ... 1.23 and 5.42
The sound of it was absolutely ridiculous,...in the best kind of way, you can just hear the copious amounts of power there
I agree. I was at the big end and when I heard it leave I knew it wasn't what I'm used to hearing with these cars.
For sure, my GSR guys had just went round 1, a few 9sec cars then pretty much 10's,...then Gary rolls up last and his sounded like a completely different species ha
sounds like it didn't like the little bumps on the big end. you can hear it unload and the rpms come in settled just b4 the stripe, looks like the chutes came out b4 you left off the go pedal. are you running a 3 speed or 2?
Hahaha, Ethan... I like that analization. Ben, The track was junk up top. Data logger shows rpm spikes as high as 500rpm engine and 300rpm driveshaft. I have a 3-speed but I pulled it out of 1st way early (6580) and it didn't get off the converter.
you could clearly hear the spikes.......I thought you had a 3 speed but it sounded just like a glide, only shift change that could be heard was just b4 the 1/8th.......6850 being an early shift on a buick sounds funny...........but as fast as the rpms have to jump on that thing can see how it's easy to happen......time for air/electric shifter? I'm sure there's room under the console for that too looked great coming out of the whole, nice and straight, just the right amount lift and carrier, set it down easier, didn't upset the rest of the car when it did, no rebound bounce. you can tell the crazy amount of work that was put into everything
