I miss the good all days with lacquer Sand down one time with 600 grit let it rip what a buffer. Urethane is 10 times the work and you still have a slight peel.

My only experience with lacquer was when I was a kid and my neighbor would make me wet sand all the cars he did. Yeah, 600 was it. I remember seeing 1000 grit for the first time when he restored his 72 HO pace car convertible. Car came out like glass. I never thought I’d be running 3000 grit on anything. It’s like sanding with newspaper.

I painted two of my cars back in the late 80s with Dupont Lucite lacquer I painted my black 70 stage one with Dupont diamond black with clear back in 1986 it's only been buffed out once since the initial buff it still looks great today. The key will lacquer is to let it sit after it's sanded for like a month then buffet out also you never waxed lacquer you only polish it if you wax it it can't breathe an move around and that's why majority of times it would crack.

This is after 2000...looks similar to the 1000 reflection but a little clearer. Tomorrow I'll run over the whole car with 3M 3000 trizact foam discs with the DA.

This whole vacation thing is really moving this project along! I should do this more often. :D

If you took a weeks vacation to work on the car, I did the same thing with the 69.
It's impressive what you can accomplish in a week if you have everything set up and ready to go,

Keep up the good work Adam.

There might be a little red overspray around there...:D every time I paint a car, I have to do a deep clean when all paint and body work is complete.

Here are a couple shots of the completed first round of buffing. Still cloudy in spots, so will do once more with the wool wheel, then two more fine rounds with different compounds and foam pads.
