    Hi Kris,

I have developed a Big car version of the 9.5" converter, that was tested sucessfully in a 70 electra coupe. That car had 3.73 rear end gears, and that is key to the function of the converter in the heavier cars. If you have 3.42 gears or higher, we should be fine, but low three or high two series gears that unit gets a bit sloppy. Just not enough gearing to get the weight moving. With that cam choice, I would have to believe you have at least 3.42 gears. Converter is $595, on shipping, I am sending some parts hopefully next month to Austrailia, I can put you in touch with him, and possibly you can tag along with that shipment, to get it most of the way.

    Thanks Jim

I’m keen to order one of those and if we could sort something with the freight the would be great.

Need to do something with rear gears it has a 12 bolt olds but im struggling to find anything for those, may have to change whole rear end out .

Ya, the guy in Alaska that ran that first big car unit, swapped in a 9" Ford from a Full size Mercury or something like that.. said it was not a bad swap, but I don't know the details.

Let me know when your ready to order .. by email... jim@trishieldperformance.com

Just ordered one of Jim's converters for my GS. Currently running a 258mm converter from Ultimate Converters. It made a big difference from the switch pitch converter I was running before. It will be interesting to see the difference the 9.5" unit makes. My current converter is about 37 lbs. empty. The 9.5 is 10 lbs. lighter.

I just had one of Jim's converters installed last week and all I can say is it feels like I picked up 50HP. 13.1 at the track last time with a cheap off the shelf 2500 stall converter. I will be at TNT this Sunday and am super excited to see what I can run now. I have hopes of high 12's but wouldn't be shocked if it were more like mid 12's. I will report back Sunday night.

Dennis (Alaskabuick) actually has two of them Larry.. this one in his wagon, and one in a 70 Electra coupe. I think we also put one in his Dad's 68 that I built the motor for a few years back... He would have one in his GSX, but it's a stick..

Your new converter was just delivered.. I will get it inspected, painted and on the way to you tommorrow.

How far out are you at making one of these converters for my new 482 that's being built? Just looking for time frame wise as our race season short.

Typically around a week from time of order, until I ship..
That can vary a little bit, depends on the chaos going on in the shop at the time, if your on a tight time frame, let me know that, and I will get it out asap.

I get them from my builder, inspect to insure they build what I told them to then paint them, and box and ship..

I have shipped in as little as 3 days in the past.

I just ordered one for my 71 . Spoke to Jim on the phone and have total confidence in his expertise after a pleasant conversation with him. I'll bet it turns out to be one of my best upgrades for the gal.

Thank you Dennis, and thanks for the "as received" picture of the box and packing... I have been screwing the bolts in the cover and leaving them out a little, so they "sink" into the corrugated cardboard "pad" that it is shipped on.. but I see from the looks of yours, I am going to have to add a bit of packing/cardboard to keep it in place.. looks like it moved in the box.

I would ship it in a smaller box, but I can't seem to find that size, in a HD 275lb cardboard, and I won't use a cheap flimsy box..

    Have fun with it..

Ya, I happened to have an extra cardboard pad with yours Larry.. I see that does make some difference, but looks like it is still moving.. those top two pads had a hole, and a half-hole that were exactly the same size as the hub when it left here. Must be the conveyors and trucks making them beat the pads up like that.

The bottom pad was perfect, except for the 3 holes that resulted from sticking the 3 7/16ths bolt thru them..

While I have never had an issue with damage in shipping, in now well over 100 of these units, I don't care for the "look" of the packaging when your opening it.

I can, and will do better going forward.

I have always tried to convey to my customers that someone really cares about their product.. that is why I paint hot rod motors in pieces, bead blast trans cases until they shine, and am now worried about the "look" of my converter packaging.

Yes, I am a picky PITA.... just ask any of the machinists that have done work for me.

Looking back at the pictures you sent Larry, I had to laugh... now there is the sign of a true bachelor... the new converter is sitting on the bed...

There would be hell to pay if I tried that, I get enough grief when the delivery guys deliver to the house, instead of the shop, and the boxes start to pile up in the foyer...

"When are you going to get these boxes out of here?"....

    Yes dear.. right away dear..

All my married friends tell me it comes down to one question,

Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

Jim, by the way the outside of the box was not bulged a bit so it didn't move far. I watched the UPS guy carrying it to the door and he was definatey juggling with it.
