Here are a few of the plated/chromated Quadrajet finishes we have come up with. I post the most recent developments over on my facebook page, as we are continually trying to improve the finishes.

The closest finish on the castings so far has been the Light Bronze, in my opinion. We are working to knock some more of the "lustre" or "shinyness" off it, but that one was a step in the right direction for sure.

But everyone has a different idea what they should look like, or what they did look like.

I also think that for an OEM look the steel pieces would be yellow chromate.

So Light Bronze with yellow Chromate.

I'm not looking for Factory Exact, so that black hands down is my favorite

I like that one too. its inverse, silver castings with black steel would be a good look as well.

We are going to be working on Silver, Red and Blue for the Custom and HotRod crowd as well. I will post pics when I have them.

The yellow on the cast parts does vary quite a bit, but I'd have to say that in my experience, the light yellow casting with yellow steel is the most like stock. Of course, I've only seen a few thousand, so more experienced eyes may say otherwise. Maybe a judiciously applied light bead blast will reduce the shine without ruining the parts?

We have discussed a beadblast to dull the shine before chromating, but havent tried it (yet). Thats quite a bit of extra work, and an interruption of the process to boot. Not something we would like to do unless we had to, and even then I think it might just marr the finish like a too porous part.

We are getting less sheen as we change drying techniques etc.

You're right about the labor, plus that's a whole bunch of dust to be sure to get out. Seems like there'd be a way to do it, like dry paint. Maybe there is a flattening agent you could use, much like paint stores put in to make flat paint. It'd probably be something deadly, like methyl ethyl death, though.

LoL Methyl Ethyl Death. Thats about right with all the chemistry involved. bad stuff.

here is a carb I just finished with a more yellow appearance.

    They all look great Ken!

Kind of partial to the black one. Wouldn't mind seeing the pump arm in something other than green though....maybe silver to match base or zinc to match pulloff.

Was going to suggest one in Buick red, but looks like you covered that already.

Yes Gary I can helicoil 7/8-20 threaded inlets.
