Every Monday night, my town hosts a classic car show. Beautiful cars, nice people.. that is until the local teens with their ricers show up. I'm leaning against my car (a 1972 Buick Skylark) talking to a few people when this Nissan 350Z with a ridiculous wing on the back pulls up and starts gunning his engine. sounds like a weed whacker. but anyway all his friends start cheering accept one that has heard my car before, so as i leave i park right in front of this car and gun it. Not only do their jaws drop but the other kid is just laughing is ass off and as i look back at the tire marks, i see all muscle car owners rev their engines as they drive past the Nissan.
Like i said, not a kill but enough to make a ricer shut up and be the laughing stock of the parking lot.

Don't mess with brute force, you'll get embarrassed.

    Fart cans I call them.
All the hondas and imports have them around here (well I do know a few Audi and Mini owners who have done very tasteful mods).

Nothing beats the sound of a Carb'd V-8 at idle or at WOT :TU:

Good for you. We have a cruise near my house in Brunswick, OH. I went last year with my son. It was good until dusk when all the ricer boys and kids with their cars with unpainted wings/bumpers/ground effects came out. A bunch of foul mouthed a-holes who really ruined the atmosphere. And of course the cops had to summoned to boot a few of them out. That's when I got out of there also.

I'll never understand why they have to be such a-holes. Its always the same to. lol maybe they coordinate on there own forum on what to say and when.

Both my son and step son watched those Fast and Delerious movies and thought ricers were all that! I took them to Lebanon Valley drag way and told them to pay attention to how many ricers show up, how slow they actually are and how many even get down the track without breaking or giving up the ghost. They walked away that day knowing American muscle is where it is at.

I understand "to each his own" but they just sound awful. I love my v-6 turbo's go but the exhaust note just sounds bad until WOT when all you hear is turbo screaming (sounds like an eagle).

There is no other sound like the Mickey Thompson headers with those big collectors tinking and the 3" duels on my Stage 1 (I waste a lot of fuel to listen to that song).

My daughter has been pleading with me to put duels on the 454, K-2500 she drives to high school. She hates rice.

One of the kids she goes to school with just put straight pipes on his Chevy C-1500 and you can hear him all over the neighborhood wasting fuel, ha, ha, ha...

I recently found a pic of my car with a sign I used to have in the back:

One thing I couldn’t help but notice at the drags one day were a lot of ricers in line. I was in Super pro, line 1 with my S/G 71 Duster, ran 9.40s@145. Hemi/4 spd. There was a club of japcrap cars that showed up and they were in line 2. I’ll have to admit they had a lot of hot looking girls hanging around. They were congregating around a hontoynissaru P.O.S. and were occasionally leaning on my car. Had to get them away and they were really nasty foul mouthed to me because I asked them to get away. So much for today’s youth. One thing I noticed is their cars all were slow and had loud exhaust so the auditory pain seemed to last forever.

I suppose we should be kind of glad they chose to get into cars but you’re right, they are so offensive in most cases. Too bad the parents aren’t steering them to a Skylark, Falcon, or something. I know many can’t afford a primo musclecar at an early age. We also need to oblige kids who ask questions or want to learn more or even sit in our cars; that could be the spark that starts something. I’ve been at shows where someone freaked out because a kid wanted to touch his steering wheel. Not scratch the paint, touch the steering wheel.

    Please don't politicize the thread.

I think we can all agree that ricers suck. It's even worse, trying to build a fast import and getting lumped in with that crowd. I had a 522 rwhp Nissan 240SX, and anytime the wannabe drifters spotted me, it was always "you need to drift this!" NO! Why would I want to lose all the traction and grip I went to great lengths to increase?

Newer riced out domestics are even worse though...how many Bumblebee yellow Camaros have I seen at car shows? Neon, chrome, fugly lights, gargantuan chrome wheels...only to make it handle worse and be slower than it was when new, haha!

Healthy competition is nice, but keep in mind these kids are the future of the car scene. If you had grown up in their era, you'd probably be just like them. Many of these kids I'm sure would love to have an old muscle car but either can't afford it yet, don't know how to work on one, or need the reliability an import gives them as its probably their only car.

Lets also consider that the newer ugly ace Honda Civic Si's run a 14 sec 1/4 mile stock, which is faster than 1970 Skylark GS350s were new.

I love my GS 455 4 speed but it'll get spanked all day by my 6 cylinder Toyota Cressida.

Andy is spot on -- I'm sure in 1975 there were a bunch flat head ford guys telling the same stories at the coffee shop- "then the hippies showed up with their big block blah blah and started drinking and talking crap" It's the same with every generation, we all think we had it so rough and if the kids today only knew what it was like to have 3 channels of TV and rotary phone.... These kids will be doing the same in 30 years -- complaining about all the hybrid and electric car kids that can't even spell fuel injector...

You can watch a YouTube video of a dumb Tesla electric car thats been stripped down and upgraded showing up to street races and wiping away most everyone, so this is already happening , as much as I wish it didn't.

These younger kids tend to be mouthy in groups, you break them up or just talk to them and see what they are running and you might be surprised at how they will talk about their ride. Some of these kids are not dumb, they have mastered the electronics and are making good power. Problem is the engines were not designed for the power nor was the car. So while we drive cars from a muscle car age these kids are taking econo cars or family sedans and are trying to make a race car out of them. So as much as i hate seeing them at least they are making the effort. I myself like to harass them about the money they have in their cars. Some of these kids dump $10-20k in what i say is a $500 beater. I just shake my head. I usually ask why they dont keep the car stock and drive it for its reliability and savings so they can buy an American rear wheel drive that can be easily modified to run fast numbers. Think about it, pre 96 S-10's are a dime a dozen and handle any small block with ease. You dump a wrathy 355ci making 500hp in an S-10 and you have an animal on your hands and can be built at home for less then $5k. This tends to make these kids think a bit. Drifting? Not in a front wheel drive. AWD maybe. Rear wheel drive sure but not something you can do safely on the street.
