get a qjet built by mark northcutt. if its a street car I would go 308 gears. street strip 342s. and its a toss up with that cam. I also just noticed that youre from south texas. that's where mark is if you were wanting to go that route. stock 455 had 800 cfm qjet.

    Thanks Lonnie.

Yea, the 650 carb is too small for you to get the most performance, they had 800 cfm quadrajet from factory.

Other big questions, what year is the block and heads? Later 455 heads were no good for performance. Sounds like you got a good start on it though.

Some of the math I have done on the carb calculator says 650 should be sufficient but I may go with a 700 cfm instead its a street car not a drag car.. I went with a mild to radical cam and headers for pure ground pounding galloping sound... the engine is a '71 out of a GS...

For the street a 455 Q jet would be the best match and gain a TON of HP and TQ over the 650 Edelbrock.

those calculators don't work on buicks. buicks have small ports with a big bore. high velocity in the runner.

A very strong THM 350 can be built, but I doubt that most stock units will handle the big block Buick. I shredded one with a only-slightly-more-then-stock SBC 400. I then got the Ron Sessions book on the THM-350 and built one that would stand up to the engine. For the record, not all THM 350s are created equal. Some are a lot beefier then others. It depends what it came out of.
