Hey Gary, just came across your post and appreciate you posting a picture of my car. It’s nice to know that some people still remember my car. I know John also always mentions me as well. It's been a few years since I been around but, one of these days I am going show up and blow the cobwebs out of it. Here are a few more shots… The picture on the right was the fastest pass that that it has run, 9.38 / 146.5 / 1.25 60ft. Norwalk Halloween Classic - 1998
You got it Joe.......My first recollection of your car is an early 90's Halloween Classic when it was untubbed and Brown. Cory Ruffo was there w/ his car when it was all Black too :bglasses:
All these Buicks are such a pleasure to see run because their something different than what you normally see at the drag strips. For every 50 cars you see run down the 1/4 (out here in Oregon anyway) your lucky to see one Buick. I love em all but memory brings fondness of Larry Conleys "Tweeked" and Buddy Ingersol's 7sec. V6 getting booted because he had the Bob Glidden camp scared. Also Greg Gessler waking up the FAST fellows and giving them sleepless nights to up their goals. Oh ya..and Richard Lassiter's 70 GS Stage 1 pulling that hemi-roadrunner back in 84 in the Car Review Mag....and that 9 second...low to the ground, 70 GS Gold Car owned by "I can't remember his name" but I saw a picture of it earlier in this thread. I just love these Buicks and truly feel blessed to have been behind the wheels of 8 different tri-shields of my own since 1969. I'll never catch up with PDXMike,Chris P. or Doug Gludt. + many more I don't know. Eric / :3gears:
Yardley's Riviera. Anyone who gets a heavy boat in the 12's deserves kudos. Also that guy who posted about a Buick 462-powered track car victory on the oval this week.
For me it was Keith Smith's '70. I went to the track on a week night to see some racing with a neighbor. I had never seen a GS before. We sat in the stands against the starting line. Lots of open header cars that night. Keith's car came into the burn out box and it was quiet as a mouse. Charlie did a burn out and it sounded sweet! REAL sweet! It got everybody's attention in our group. We just thought it was a real clean, sweet ride that would run high 12's. When it left the line it came alive and ran a very low 11, yanking the tires about 10". Immediately I ran to the pit area to look for the car cuz I KNEW that car had to have nitrous!! I met Keith and diiscussed his car and was shocked to find such a beautiful ride, all business and NO juice! I was hooked for life. That car is what caused me to jump ship from Shovey to Buick and I've been in rehab ever since that day in '89!! :Brow:
I'm gonna second Jim Rogers. Didn't he enter it into the concours show class and get a bronze or silver even with a roll bar? Then go yank the front wheels.
I'm bringing this back up,it always gives me inspiration, plus, boostjunky asked for pics of Gary Paines Thumper...there are some sprinkled in through the thread of it...Fish
Yes, this is a good thread. Looking at it brings back a lot of fond memories!! There sure has been a lot of quality Buicks over the years!! Steve
Beside the hardcore tech stuff, these are the threads I keep going back to...I need to get my pics out of storage from the 91 nats...Fish
I have to start with TA wagon. I remember being behind it when it launched scraping the bumper and I swear I couod see the hood chrome from behind. That wagon was launching likke a patriot missle:TU: How can anyone pick a fav? You die hard Buick guys and you know who you are, have spawned a lot of guys including me. If I could have any of them I would start with the Rix stg 2 car I think NOBODYS FOOL is here in my home town now. If not its an amazing likeness with no lettering.
I guess we all forgot about about Scotty from PG performance .in 93 he had the 90's tube chassis Regal with Stage4 heads on motor ran 7.60 in Engleshtown. The same day they had a early 80's Corvette,,also tube chassis,BBC and big shot of nitrous that was running 7.40.BrunoD.
When I downloaded the pic, I noticed the name Cagle named to the picture. I am now looking to see some bigger sized shots of his car. I know he ran a BBC in there from reading old posts, but that look is the goal I want for The Maggot... Thanks for the help.
Oh yeah,I love that car...I'd also say Rick Crawfords car is real nice...sits real low on alumastars and drags Chrome!
Alot of nice cars in this thread. Cagles' car did it for me.....I can only hope in 5-10 years my car will end up in a thread like this... I may have to start it, I'll be "an old Buick racer" soon enough.. Gary G.
Bob I agree with you! Yours, Guy's and Ollie's were the inspiration for mine. I tried to combine attributes from all three! Steve
