Congradulations! Just wondering what you are going to build?? Is the 55mm cam something that the raised cam has? Are cam cores available?? What main bearings are 2.75??? Just wondering, mine is not the raised cam and has a 54mm cam and a 3in. main (Ford). Good luck.

the main journal size size is Chrysler 440. as for the cam cores there are some available and im going to have to use a roller bearing but i think you could order it with a 55mm tunnel on a standard height cam block.(but im not really sure)
also i got the .904 lifter bore size. is that what lifter bore size you went with Gary?
Also the bore is 4.5 inches. i plan on putting this motor in my 79 mustang coupe.:Dou:

Cody, I forgot what size the lifter bores are, I think they are the same size as yours. And the cam, I thought that all of the blocks would have the 55mm cam, but they ended up 54mm, I didn't specify the cam size when I ordered the block, I think Mike decided to do the 54mm on them all, too many options for the first batch. That's funny, I was thinking of sticking mine in a fox body Mustang too, I could pick up one with a cage certed for 8.50 or quicker, and it would be about 1000lbs lighter than my '65 Skylark Convert. And with the Buick motor having the distributor in the front, people would assume it was a Ford motor......

I have 3 extra roller cam cores for this engine - 55mm roller cam bearings. It was a totally custom deal, and they had a minimum order of 5 with about a 6-month lead time. But I have them now. I'm saving 2 for myself, one of which is already ground to lobe profile & one spare.

These are set up with the LS-1 firing order and the noses are the big block Ford design. The reason is that the crank-to-cam centerline spacing of the raised cam block is the same as the big block Ford. Therefore, Ford compatible belt drives will fit (sort of). We're still working on getting a timing cover that will bolt up to the Buick block on one side and the Ford timing belt drive hardware on the other.

I will let these 3 extra cam cores go for $725 each, plus shipping, to the first three buyers. If you want to get your project underway NOW, this will be much quicker and cheaper than ordering 5 custom and waiting like I had to. :TU:

Yup, same Bill. Hope the holidays were good to you. I saw your post that you got your new block & from some of the responses, it looked like there might be a couple other people looking for cam cores too, so that's why I joined the list (finally) and made the post. Are you still wanting one?

Bill. Sounds like your cam cores would only be good for the few that have ordered the raised cam, if what you mentioned about the centerline and ford snout are correct. Pretty sure the others are 54mm with Buick snout... I know that's what I need, I do know that a couple of the blocks that have been built already had Buick cam tunnels. And I'm really hoping that TA's 54mm cam core will be cheaper than the $725 for just a core!!

    Yes, you are correct, Gary.

This custom cam came about because the regular timing cover, distributor & drive gear, oil pump drive, etc. would not work on the raised cam block. Mike at TA told me he didn't have a new timing cover for the raised cam block and didn't anticipate having one soon, but because of the Ford spacing and availability of aftermarket Ford belt drives, this would probably be the direction to go. Additionally, the Ford belt drives were not compatible with the current Buick cam snout. Since the stock Buick cams also tend to be thin and flex too much for a hard-core race application, we went ahead and created this new cam that WOULD work with the Ford belt drive, Ford roller cam bearings, etc. and, like the new block, be PLENTY stout to take any loading without flex. Since we were going full custom, we switched to the LS-1 firing order, the consensus being it was a superior design.

So until a "regular Buick" front timing cover is available for this raised cam block, this is one direction it can go. One piece that's still missing is the adapter that will allow this aftermarket Ford belt drive to bolt up to the BUICK block. I'm trying to get this done, and work has actually been started, but has now been stalled for awhile. With the new batch of raised cam blocks showing up, I'm hoping that the demand will be enough to jolt it out of this "holding pattern" and get things moving again. I promised Mike T. at TA to get this for him over a year ago, so I'm sure he thinks I'm a total flake by now.

Anyway, that's the "short version" of the story on these cams. Oh, we had to order a minimum of 5 for a custom deal like this, and the price was through the roof, so that's why I happen to have these extras and why they're so expensive. But I have them now, so the next guy won't have to go the entire custom route & waiting game, since I've already done it. I'll attempt to call the machinist again today about that front timing cover.

    Bill,
I have had a belt drive cover designed. I am only waiting on Mezzere to give me a water pump boss that they could use to bolt a water pump to. After that we will machine the drives here at TA Performance. I have planned on making one for you as well. I know that Ernie has held you up on this piece.

    Thanks Mike,
I'm really sorry about how this whole thing happened (or didn't, in this case). Ernie does awesome work WHEN HE DOES IT. I just don't know what the hell it takes to get him to do it!!!!

Guess I'll be buying a cover from you when it's available (and if my finances allow - maybe trade you for cam blanks or something, I don't know)
