Free - The power brake booster and master cylinder from my '71 Skylark Drum brake system. I have converted to disc brakes and no longer need these parts. Good working condition - you pay the shipping (from NJ 08033) and they are yours.

Wait! I think I should probably go for this being that manual brakes aren't the safest things in the world.

I'm getting 10.73 for shipping to 12589 through usps but I'm not positive on dimensions or weight.

    BOY DID I GET BURNED!!!

Jacob went back on his word. He threw a hissy fit because shipping costs were $21.00, not $10 or $12.

You send a guy FREE PARTS and he wants to piss and moan over shipping?

Stay clear of this kid, he's trouble. Definitely not trust worthy.

    SEE YA! :3gears:

Well, this thread was disappointing. First, I didn't get a free power brake booster and master cylinder. Then, I walked in on a very ugly situation, that makes this hobby not fun.

I haven't even started my resto yet, and I've already been robbed out of $300 in parts (not a board member...) Can't people just do what they say they will? :Do No:

Yeah can't people give you a quote before they lump crap in a soggy box and send it without notice? Thats like mowing some random guys lawn and asking for $40. I don't care how much he bashes me I offered to pay what the quote was and not a penny more. If he can show proof he stated it was $21 before shipping the item I'll fire out a check right now.

Don't complain about it being free you were throwing it away.

he has already told you you dont have to pay him :Do No:
those free parts just costed you more than you can know

and how can you get a real quote when you dont know the size or weight of the parts:Do No:

if he had threw them away it would not have costed him 21 dollars
    think about it

You gave him a quote, with no clue, however wrong. Now it's crap and a soggy box? His mistake was using your clueless quote as an absolute. You're the one who sounds like a dude mowing lawns!

$21 for those parts and you are complaining and stiffing the guy.

    Get a life.
People like you make it harder for people to extend good will to others.
Go down to the parts store and see what that stuff would cost you.
He wasn't going to make a dime, just have you cover the shipping and now for the privilege of giving you parts, he's out $21.

Mowing some random guys lawn and charging $40 huh...
How about more like you ask a guy to mow your lawn, he says sure I'll do it for the cost of gas and then you don't pay him because you think he should have a mower that gets better milage.

You are asking a guy that was honorable enough to ship you parts for proof of the cost when you are the one that shows a lack of character??

You don't get to decide how much the shipping is, the seller does... and by your own admission, you didn't know the weight or dimensions anyway.

He responded by asking you to provide your address and then stated that you can pay the ACTUAL shipping charges. By providing that address without confirming weight/dimensions or actual costs, you effectively agreed to those terms.

Everyone seems to 'get it' but you. You've burned a lot of bridges by continuing to argue about this... all because of $10 worth of shipping on otherwise free parts.

Young man, you should be ashamed of yourself. It's time to man-up and admit that you should have handled it better.

I am not the one throwing a fit, I think I am handling it just fine. I told Lee if he felt wronged to bring a moderator in to help mediate the situation.

It is fully possible to get a complete accurate quote through the Us post office within a dollar or two. I have shipped a 6 foot wide spoiler to Washington for $25 and I told the guy it would be $25 for shipping. if it was more I would have covered the cost myself. I also wouldn't ship something without payment, that creates more headache especially in a situation like this. This week alone I have spent $400 on this car with no job and I only have a little cash left to get it on the road. Rust bucket or not it will be done. I am not a cranky old man with $5 million of museum pieces, this is my car period.

Contrary to typical stereotypes of the generation that has ruined this country I don't buy candy or cell phones or fast food. Every bit of the $1000 I earned for getting a full ride to college went into this car. I have to choose wisely what I do and don't need. Did I need a booster? No not really, but for $12 what the hell. If Lee did the normal correct method of business he would have priced out shipping, told me the cost and asked for payment. If he said $21 I would have passed. That is my right is to pass on an item or price I do not like. A little hard to do that after the item is shipped though don't you think?

I have purchased a quadrajet that can't even be used as a core, a dipstick that doesn't even fit and now I have to deal with a booster that cost more than I am willing to pay. Seperately these items were cheap, together that is about $75 from members of this forum for things I didn't need and probably will never use do to them not fitting or damage. I don't have hard feelings because it was my mistake to spend that cash.

Judge me all you want, you will side with Lee, he is older and has more cars and probably 10 more posts than me. I don't need this forum I'd rather work on my car than talk about it. If it comes down to it hell if Lee was close enough to englishtown or island I would just give him back the booster. I don't get satisfaction over having somethig unpaid for.

Excuse me - apparently you are riding out the summer before college (which is a full ride, so no huge upcoming expenses for you for college) - and you haven't bothered to get a summer JOB??? I understand wanting to have a summer of fun before college, but how hard would it be to get a part time job for spending cash?

Decent jobs are hard to come by, but crappy (filler) jobs for cash are out there if you look for it and aren't afraid to do some manual labor. Maybe you aren't the stereotypical child of your generation - but there sure seems to be a plethora of people under 30 (just my observation and some generalization), who won't work unless a super paying job with benefits, short hours, a salary, and free rides to work are delivered to them on a silver platter. Maybe you could have MOWED A LAWN or two to come up with that $9??

And been appreciate of the giver for taking his time to package the parts, drive them to UPS, pony up HIS cash to send them, and then have the DECENCY not to hound you for the payment! I bet he spent an aggregate of 1 hour of HIS personal time to get those parts to you - and now you're basically saying that an hour of his time isn't worth $9?? And you wanted the parts, yet didn't even have time to acknowledge you had received them until HE contacted YOU.

The manly response might have been:
"Wow! $21 for shipping? I was really expecting the $12, sorry for the misunderstanding. Could I send you the $12 now and work on the other $9?" (or "maybe, can we split the difference?" or "is there something I can do to help you out in lieu of the $9?" etc). Lots of ways you could have mitigated the situation.

My suggestion would be - give the full ride to college to an appreciative young person and sign your butt up for the military. It'll teach you a few things - like not shooting yourself in the foot.

I was rooting for you reading your thread about fixing up your car. Now, not so much.

I see a lot of people taking sides and making judgement here. I am going to completely avoid saying who is right and who is wrong.

I will say that a little more clear communication might have avoided this situation completely. In all fairness to Pheonix350, he did say exactly what his expectations were. Realistic, correct or not, he said what he expected. DeeVeeEight made an assumption that the additional cost was not a problem. The problem started with the assumption. Again, not taking any sides, just pointing out what actually happened.

Where everyone is upset here is about perspective. Most of our perspectives are that $21 for all those parts is a no brainer. Just the trouble it takes to package them up, haul them down and ship them is 21 dollars worth to me. We won't even mention the recognition that DeeVeeEight deserves for thinking of others first.

While I said that communication could have avoided this upset, it is much easier to see in hind sight than when it is happening. When reading this thread, there is one crucial moment where this deal went wrong.
    Here it is:
"PM me your name and address and I will ship them out UPS - you can send me the actual shipping costs.

    Lee"

DeeVeeEight took this action without an agreement. That is the whole disagreement boiled down to this one thing.
I can only tell you in hindsight what I have learned from watching your disagreement. I have learned that I will make sure all parties are in complete agreement on the terms before I ship or ask to be shipped anything. If I decided to make an executive decision for someone else that is outside the parameters of the deal, I will expect to cover that cost myself.

One more time. I am not taking sides! Just saying what I see. I will also state for the record that if somebody sent me a working booster, master and prop valve delivered to my door for $21, I would hold them in the highest regard and let everyone know it!

After watching how this deal went down, I will keep in mind, that all kinds of people have all kinds or perspectives. We may not always see eye to eye. When we don't I will do my best to remember a plaque that my grandmother used to have on the wall when I was a child. It read:
"Be careful of the words you say, keep them soft and sweet. Because you never know from day to day which ones you'll have to eat...."

I didn't look for jobs because I was told I was going to work at a newspaper printing facility with my dad. I am still waiting for that call even though it is too late. I do try to make extra cash when I can by scrapping stuff and I did offer to pay the $12. Maybe I should have worded it better I have lots of extra parts I would send for free but my point was that I felt trapped into paying for something I only wanted to save from the trash
