As most of you know I have been passionate about building Buick 350s for quite a while now.... I am beginning to compile my mountains of information to write a book about Buick small blocks (231,215,300,340, and 350). In this book there will be a section for "readers rides" so to speak so this is your chance to get in on this fun! If you have a Buick engine in a Jeep or other make that is fine too.

This will be the run down so copy and paste this into an e-mail, fill in your details and pics and send it to me at sean-gaskin@hotmail.com:

    -Owners name and location
-Model, year of vehicle and engine size
    -Total miles
-Miles on engine and year if different
-Rear end gear ratio and stall speed of torque converter if not stock
-brand and size of rear tires
-1/4 mile or 1/8th mile times including 60 foots and MPH (dyno info is good too)
-If raced list the rpm you leave the line as well as shift points and weight

    Information about your engine:

    -Rebuilt or not
-Static compression ratio (state whether estimated or measured)
-Carburetor (If you know the jetting let me know)
    -Ignition (also timing specs)
    -Intake manifold
-Cylinder heads (if ported and you have flow numbers add them, if valves are oversized state sizes)
-Pistons and overbore size (cast, hyper or forged)
    -Connecting rod
-Camshaft (specs and how it is degreed)
-Exhaust (headers or not as well as pipe diameters)
    -Any oiling modifications
    -Any power adders
    -Engine builder

Please give as much detail about each of the above as possible and if your engine components are stock just list stock beside the item. If unknown just leave it blank.

I am also doing several in depth multipage articles on Buick 350 builds and there is one spot available so please let me know in your e-mail if you are interested in that!

Wow Sean, I can't wait to see (and have) your book! My '72 block is on a stand waiting for time and funds to build it. I follow most 350 threads and find your insight extremely helpful.

Please consider offering "build lists" of kits and parts to build stock, mild, and wild engines (NA and turbo). I enjoyed Jefferson Bryant's book, but I feel it fell short on that aspect. Not that your book should become an advertisement for brands, but it would be helpful for people like myself who don't build several 350's - but maybe one or two.

How long do you think this will take? If you want some novice proofreading, I'd love to help!

    Best Wishes,

    Thanks for the support!

I will definitely compose recipes for all levels of 350 performance both NA and using power adders.

I am aiming to have the book printed before the end of 2010 however if you need advice for your build before then send me a PM and I would be glad to help.

I am having machine work done on my 350. What do you suggest for a mild build. I already have a 114 cam. I am thinking going stock everywhere else.

Do you know who is currently doing the build with a roller cam? I am very interested in hearing more about that build since the roller cam is a huge advancement!

I will have to see how it goes, I work a lot do this is an evening and weekend project. I promise to at least outline the Rover platform and provide resources and contacts for people to learn more about them.

The Rover is definitely an important aspect to the SBB family and I will try my best to include it in my book.

What a fantastic story the SBB tells! From the early V6 to the all alum 215 to the Buick 350, Turbo V6, and modern Rover and GM platforms that it influenced!

    Thanks for sharing Sean.

Most people with this kind of knowledge are very hush hush about their "secrets". So i think youre doing a great thing by sharing and helping keep the buick V8 alive.

Will you have a section in your book for "interesting knowledge"? Like the Ford 460 neoprene rear main seal, which i thought was pretty cool. I dont even know how you came to know that.

    Very cool stuff.

Yes, I will share all! I am not doing this to make $ it is just to share the knowledge and keep the SBB movement going!

I am making a single palne intake for my car right now. Let me see how it runs with it and I might give some information

Awesome! The more info the better.... I know my cars will have single-plane intakes.

I assume you will be going with one of the Burton sheet metal intakes?

Yes, PM me if you want more info.

It would be interesting to do a back to back to back test of my ported TA to my single plane to Burtons single plane to try to further figure out what would work the best.

I agree but do not have a spare intake for testing.

My engine will be a .040 over block with the oiling mods, 9.5:1 compression (might go closer to 10:1), 260+ intake cfm heads, oversized valves, super lightened and polished stock rods, custom JE pistons, one of our new hydraulic roller cams, 1.65 TA roller rockers and a ported TA intake. :TU: Computer says it'll make 420+hp and 440+ ft-lbs. Not positive on the power numbers, Im trying to remember off the top of my head so I'll check in the morning. The computer has always been spot on though. Dunno if you'd be interested in it as its not built yet so no pictures :spank:

I really appreciate you taking the time to type that out for me! Yes of course I am interested, you guys are our main hope for performance parts!

    Any pics of the car?

Please keep me updated and if you have flow sheets for the heads or any other info pass it allong.

Do you plan to dyno test this engine?
