Gary's one of the reasons I am into Buicks today. I will never forgive him.

Some info off his engine builders site.

"I've been to several machinists in and around St. Louis and even tried one in Indiana. The shopping is over. AMT is beyond a doubt the best shop for Horsepower. Doug is a wizard when it comes to all things horsepower related. He is very precise in everything he does and man does it show!

I race my '72 GS Stage 1 Buick at select Buick events around the midwest. It has always been very competitive in the heads up class that I have run in for many years. I was the 1999 GS Nationals winner in Columbus Ohio. I was the '02 GS Street Eliminator points champion with wins at both Norwalk, Ohio and Morocco Indiana and Runner Up at the GS Nationals at Bowling Green Kentucky. This past year we pulled out some of the stops (but not all) and my AMT built 455 Buick went 9.45@141+ with a 1.311 60' time and was #1 qualifier, also setting the record at both ends for my class. The car weighs 3630 lbs race ready and has 3" exhaust, 9" slicks, single 1050 carb and no trans brake and no NOS.

Big thanks to Doug and Jerry at AMT Racing Engines!" - Gary Laughlin

Back in the day Thumper was one of the reason's I couldn't wait to get my BG video's (no internet back then) I bet you had no Idea of the impact you and Thumper had on a young buick man from some little Island off the west coast of Canada. I was very saddened when Thumper got taken away but very happy you and your family were safe. When Northcorner posted about thumper I was going to chime in and tell the story of the crash but held back and waited for you to tell it so I didn't screw it up. When you bought Blue Bye You from Armin I thought it would be Thumper II I was sad you didn't carry on the name, but I think I'm over it now, well maybe:laugh: Chris

I was very close to owning this car last year. I had a trade worked out with Gary and I was going to swap cars on my move back east but I got ill and couldn't pull it off. I love love that car, what a great pick you made Jeff. I have that same pic on my screen saver. Chris

    Chris,
Did Gary ever get it running again? Last I heard he had a stuck lifter, this was a few years back. I know he was busy with his kids and had no time to run the car.

Man where does time go. I was thinking about it after my post, it was closer to 2 years ago I was going to trade my stage1 car for his car. If I recall correctly it broke a lifter bore off and I don't think he has got it running since. I think he is looking to get into more of a stock type street car. The silver with black top gives me movement big time:grin: Its a very cool car, the thing leaves hard. Chris

I thought of renaming Blu-By-U but the car just didn't feel "right" if you know what I mean.Thats why I later sold it and started racing Scat again.

Jim Turner's blue '70 GS was another one that really got my attention back in the day. I think Hot Rod featured an article that was a really good read.

Joe Chuba's blue 69 GS was my favorite. Ten years back that car was running 9.30s and 9.40s with no block girdle. Fabulous wheel stands also!! Does anyone out there have any pictures of Joe's car? Another very nice touch was the tri shields bead rolled into the aluminum interior.

I like Mike from TA's wagon before he put the Lenco in it! That thing would carry the tires so far back in the early GS nationals! When we all had street cars and drove to Beech bend from the hotel with the slicks on!:TU:
