I raced at the NMCA race this weekend at Beech Bend and my Regal ran its fastest mph and lowest ET to date, 6.732 @ 101.90 mph. Guess the motor is getting broken in.:pp :pp

I've always wanted to do two things when drag racing, make a 6 second pass in the 1/8 mile and a 10 second pass in the 1/4 mile. Last week my Regal went 6.73 in the 1/8th mile and tonight a 10.80 in the quarter. It would have went faster in the 1/4 mile but I was up against the high side chip (6000) about the 1000 foot cone. Now if I can just cut a light with this car maybe I can win some good money?:(

Sounds like you've got it workin' right, Monkey Man! Good luck as you re-learn the tree. One of these days when the kids are finished doing so much running, maybe I'll be out there at the track with you all again. I miss it! Maybe I'll see you while the Buicks are in town!

I forgot, what rear gear and tire size do you use? T-400?

Kick ass on meeting your goal :TU:

I've got 39 passes on the car now and have decided I want a street rod more than I want another race car. Guess the Regal will go up for sale. The car will make someone a killer bracket car.:3gears: :3gears:

Monkeyy, hate to see you selling your Regal. I just got around to reading all the post on your car today. I know what you mean about the
Sportsman class at Beech Bend and Music City. I would like to run there butreally don't have a class to run as I run 6.50 1/8 mile. Several years ago Beech Bend at Sportsman at 7.50 and my 68 Skylark would run 7.40, so I go up one Sunday and get the idea to short shift os I can slow down. I drop the shift point 500 rpm and it went faster than it ever had-7.32 so I did learn something to go faster but didn't help me run the class. I wish there was a good 1/4 mile track that ran 1/4 mile races without electronics and footbrake that I could race at around southern Ky or middle TN. I guess wanting to race 1/4 mile keeps me with the NMCA, but that is getting expensive. Good luck on selling your car.

Jim: You could run the Pro class but its also 1/8 mile and pays $800.00 to win and $300.00 runner-up and the index is 4.50 and up with transbrakes allowed but no delay box. I won it twice (out of three weeks) last year using my 6 cylinder Regal (My v8 Regal wasn't ready to race). Music City did have the same class but I haven't been there in over a year so don't know if they still do are what the payout is.

Thanks, I did know you could run PRO, but don't want to get spoiled on the transbrake. I do have a brake in the car but have the soleniod off and no wiring to keep the NMCA off me for their races. Could footbrake it like you did with the 6 cylinder. But I have became addictted to 1/4 mile stuff.

I've still got the Regal (actually ran at Beech Bend last night) and I feel it runs to hot after a trip down the track. I get into the water box at about 130 degrees (150 after burn out) and at the end of the track the temperature is about 200 degrees. I've got an aluminum Griffin radiator with an electric fan (no shroud) and the small electric motor turning the water pump (with the over drive pulley). I'm currently running 90 jets square in the 1000HP carb. The motor is bored .030 over and has TA aluminum heads and intake. The compression ratio is 10.46 to 1. I'm thinking maybe the motor would run cooler with more jet in the carburator like maybe 92's square but have no idea what other people run for jet size in there Buick motors. I did try 88 jets once and the motor slowed down 2 mph in the 1/8th mile. I guess my question is how much fuel (jet size) will one of these 455 (462) motors tolerate? The car is only raced, never used on the street. Thanks in advance for any comments.

    chryco63 14's or bust!

Has it run cooler on previous passes? Does it cool down on the return road? :Do No:

I was under the impression that 200 degrees is well within limits. if you improved with bigger jets, maybe take it up two more numbers as you said. If it runs better richer, it will likely cool a bit more.

While some folks like to run on the lean side for the sake of eeking out every last 100th, the safe rule of thumb is to go rich until it slows down, then back down a size or two. Always watch plugs for signs of detonation.

As every combo has it's quirks, there's no absolute jetting recipe can recommend for a given application.

It has always run the same temperature. It doesn't cool down on the return road. I think it would get hotter if run longer. I'll put some 92 jets in it today and see what it does at the track on Sunday. My Chevy buddies already think its over fueled with 90 jets, they run BBC motors but there motors don't like that much fuel. I don't really know the difference but I do know two much fuel is better than two little. I tried reading the plugs and even though I'm using half 93 and half 110 racing fuel the plugs are nice and tan, I didn't expect that. Guess I'll just keep increasing the jet size until the car slows down and then go back to what it ran the fastest with and maybe it will also cool the motor down too.

Got the jets changed over to 92's square today and yesterday my buddy Earl welded in some front end travel limiters so maybe now I can cut a decent light with the car. The Sportsman (footbrake) class here at Beech Bend is really hard nuts. I've been .001 on the tree and dead on with a 6 and got skinned. He was .004 and dead on with a 1. I can't wait for Sunday to come around, wish me luck.

Changing the jets over to 92's cooled the engine down 10 degrees but the car didn't run any quicker. Don't know if the motor will stand 94 jets or if I really need them, I'll have to think about it. The front end travel limiters helped some but I'm still stuck with .030- .050 reaction times which won't cut it here at Beech Bend. I did manage to win three rounds before getting put out in the Pro class but that was really because other people had problems and I didn't. I'm now the only guy racing a Buick on Sundays in the bracket classes. :(

Have you tried to put more air in front tires. If that wont get it you could go with a bigger tier on the front. What that does is flatten out the radius on the tire so that when you go it effectively keeps the front edge of the tire more forward than a smaller tire. The only other thing to do would be to go Super Pro and run a delay box. or maybe a little more initial timing.:Do No: Are you lifting the tires on the launch?

I know what you mean about being the only Buick. I too am the only Buick at my track. But I did clench track champion honors this weekend in the sportsman class.
