Default 68 Buick GS400 Value Question

    Good morning -

I am looking for input on a purchase price range for a 1968 Buick GS 400 hardtop.

Lets call it a solid Grade 2. FINE An original car with very low miles that has been meticulously maintained since new; or an older professional restoration that has seen very limited use since restoration. Very close inspection by an expert may detect almost insignificant flaws or wear, but to most enthusiasts the car would look perfect. This car would come within several points of a perfect score when judged, and would receive the top award at a show unless a true Number 1 car were also being judged.

Full restoration in 1995 - Scarlet Red. White Vinyl top/interior changed from white to black. ~ 16,000 K miles.

68 is basically a 1-year only car due to the change from 67...many parts will not interchange and the 68-9 models are not that much in demand.....would guess in the $10-12k range.

I would be skeptical of the mileage if it has received a full restoration. Sure it isn't 116k? Or is that 16k since the resto? Dealerships sometimes have a tendency to stretch the truth.

Cj - thank you, I assumed 16k since resto which is wrong to do - I will ask the dealer today. Are you in agreement with the price range that George provided based on what you see here and assuming 16k since resto?

Can't tell if buckets or bench, which will impact pricing, but if I was buying that is the price range I would want to be in. Looks like center caps are wrong?

I have looked at this car online...a lot of things are not correct. A big thing is the grille-it will cost several hundred dollars for the right one. Also, it has a later, possibly pontiac steering wheel. All in all it looks like a nice car, but worth nowhere near the 29K asking price. I'd put top dollar at ten or twelve thousand-no matter how much the supposed resto cost. I love a 68, but that one needs a grand or two to be right and right still isn't that high. My 2cents.

Does any one have a link to the car Im not seeing it on the thread
(It could be my filter at work)

For $29 k I have a 68 4spd car that is correct and only has 19000 orig miles I might be talked out of.You would at least get my attention.

If you are considering that kind of coin, SERIOUSLY consider Roy's car above.

Here's one up in Duluth, MN for $8,000. Haven't seen it on the road, don't know anything about it, looks like it has a '69 grill in it. Could look at it next week if anyone is interested.

That car has been on Streetside for quite some time. I agree with the other posters - $25K is WAY high. I'd suggest stopping by your local book store and looking through the old car price guides to get some idea of pricing.

I was at Streetside Classics a few weeks ago. This car looks nice & seems to have a nice paint job but I thought it was over-priced (like most of their cars).
Here's a few pictures I took with my cell phone...
They have since sold the gold '71 GS455 convertible (according to their website).
sorry for the bad quality photos, my flash wasn't working and I needed it... typical warehouse lighting.

It's a Skylark grille-almost flush with the chrome. The GS grille is set back a couple of inches and has an argentish surround. Like In 67, the GS grille is a special grille painted differently. Also, it looks like the emblem is not 68- they are bigger. These are the little details that shouldn't be wrong on a 26 thousand dollar car. The right grille is expensive; the right emblem is only 28 dollars. What else did they get "close enough"? To me, it's like the old saw about a red convertible that wins the popular vote while the correct beige coupe gets ignored.

Thanks - my car wasn't well documented (previous owner claims all original) but the more I work on it the more I find stuff that just doesn't make sense. I know the '68 GS emblem is bigger than the '69 but I can't tell which one the Streetside car is wearing. I also don't see the rubber spacers that should be on the front bumper under the grille surround and head light trim.

Actually, that is a Special / Sportwagon grill. The Skylark used the same grill as the GS except the GS grill is painted black in the center.

That car has 116K not 16 from the looks of it
