 I became an overnight legend way back in '74 with my Mother's '65 LeSabre. The legend said that I went to the local dragstrip and clean house with all of those who claimed that "BUICK'S WERE FOR GRANDMA'S." I never gave claim to that ,However, I did say that the LeSabre could hold it's own on anybodies Street!!! :3gears:

He beat a bunch of people while driving a buick...?

It seems as though every time a new post arrives in this section, you're usually the first to pop in and dismiss it right away which is very uncool.

Not every time....just the ones that are incoherent or suck. Unfortunatly Kill stories that are good here are few and far between, most of the time it the stories are about racing (sic) in traffic in broad daylight, with people who should't be in the car, racing against other people you shouldn;t be messing with...and then it somehow always turns into an import bashing session. I don;t want to hear about irresponsible driving turning a guy trying to cut you off in a honda into a street race, that's not a kill thats just being stupid.

Now this post, does it have the makings of a kill? maybe but we didn;t get any of those details, did we? He says he went to the local drag strip to clean house but it never says he did, how he did it, what cars he was up against. The it turns into a defense of a statemnt made in 1974 about buicks..."well i didn't say this...but I said this"...lemme check..oh wait no racing in that. And as far as a kill with a 1965 lesaber what's not to believe ? I once took a 20 second '99 tahoe to a bracket race and won, so a lesaber cleaning hosue at a dragstrip (which we don't know what happened because we have no details what so ever) is not unbelieveable. What is unbelievable is that it starts off about a drag strip in 1974 (hey old racing stories are usualy cool) and never delivers one ioda of detail. The whole story is about what he did or didn't say back before most of the people reading this section were alive. Kill story...I think not.

...and mechacode, I read some of the things you post and you are one to talk about uncool. Talk about the pot and the friggin kettle....

I believe that many will agree that what ever someone decides to post in this section may not be what the next person in line thinks is a so called "Kill". Everyone has their own idea of what racing is and how they beat the next car in line no matter what the make of the car is. There is no need to bash another on this thread or in this section of 'Kill Stories". If you don't think the guy made a legite kill then just move on and don't respond to the thread if you don't have anything nice to say. It's not that hard, just hit the back button on at the top of your screen and move on.

Hey 70 Skylark, cool kill! Whaddya go up against? And was that LeSabre nailhead powered? Those nailheads don't take any s***, I've seen em in action before! People don't doubt Buicks as much when they see them at the drag strip. Keep on kickin butt!

P.S. Geeto 67, if you have something to say please do it politely, this is a close knit bullitin board compared to others and the only way we are gonna keep it that way is by treating others with respect.

I'm not disputing the definition of a kill (although if you look at what little is written there is only an inference) I am disputing the definition of the word story that graces the name of this section of the board. We hear more about what was said then what cars were raced and what the outcome was. Even you can see that the "emperor has no clothes".

70_skylark...I apologize if I chased you off, if you have a story to tell by all means tell it...I'm all about hearing old drag racing stories, who cares what was said about buicks when - it's first to the painted stripe that counts.

one needs to only look at the previous posts in this board (one with a mercedes comes to mind) to see how much "respect" is slung around here. I hate to say it but this section of the board is lame most times. No respectable racer posts here, it's all buicks vs. kids in imports or old people in luxury car stories. I see a lot of pics of tubbed wheels up buicks launching at the stip but when I come to the section that talks about racing I get to read about somebody's skylark with a one legger taking down a stock honda civic. And as far as hitting the back button It doesn't do any good because that's all the stories there are (with the occasional gem like the vette story, and I didn't find the mercedes story bad except for the way most board members reacted to it - to quote Adam "holy bigot batman").

I'm gonna step down off the soapbox now.

A kill is a kill even if the person doesn't elaborate.

That coming from someone who doesn't do anything but slap down people's kill stories when popping in once a month really means alot to a person who's here everyday participating in the community. The boards over at supericer.com might suit you alot better than the boards here.

Bottom line is Geeto when you become the moderator of this section of threads then you can make the decision to tell who can and cannot post a thread on here. Until then you should read the post and if you dont like it then don't respond it, if it is a so called waste of time. What you consider a kill story may not be what the majority on this board agree with.

the following is directed at mechacode only:

Wasn't much of a point...unless the point is you are an eleitist - which is painfully obvious. Let me make something clear, I have only owned 1 car that was an import it was a vw rabbit, it was free when I got it and it went to the yard when it died. I personally don't like many new cars, and about the only import I ahveever considered throwing money down on was an alfa GTV. But since you know me so well I guess your superricer comment is appropriate (and such fresh material too, wow).

Let me explain the difference between an enthuasist (me) and a wanna be eleitiest poser (you). My take on it is if you spin a wrench on anything from a farm tractor to a ferrari you are my brother. I have seen guys go fast with imports and guys go fast with american iron. I don;t think lowly of anybody who puts time and money into their cars and to me a kid with a fast honda has as much to be proud of as a kid with a fast buick. I love cars, period. While I give some makes prefferential treatment (pontiacs and buicks), I never hold it against anybody what they have chosen to drive. You on the other hand constantly assert american iron is the best, imports suck, yada yada yada. this is not the mentality of someone who likes cars, this is the mentality of someone who is using their choice of a hobby to feel good about themselves at the expense of others. It's sad, it's alienating, and frankly it makes you look like you don't actually wrench on your ride. Working on cars is hard (fun but not easy), working on getting the money for cars is hard. Anybody who pisses on someone elses hard work is a poser.

Actually I read a lot of tech stuff when I am here and I find it quite good. Occasionally I post there, if I have something to say. I haven;t been a round lately because of computer troubles, but since I got a new system for christmas I imagine i'll be around more frequent. I don't slap down everybody's kill stories (if you could even call some of them that), just the ones that I have a negative opinion about. I have actually only posted about 5 kills (if you could call them that) that I disagreed with, 1 was a high school kid talking trash (no racing involved whatsoever), 2 had irresponsible behavior, and the rest was just responding to the ricer bashing. I know you know how to use the search function, why don;t you go and look at how many times I praised legitimate kills and then you actually act like you know what you are talking about. And by the way, I'm glad participating in the commuity doesn't include actually wrenching on a buick for your sake....all this time on the internet how do you ever find time to work on your car? I'm in my garage everynight trying to make progress on my project, what's the last thing you did?

Ok to the rest of y'all:
Bottom line is by being a member of this board I get to post my opinions same as you. Being a moderator would only mean I could delete and edit, which doesn't mean much to me. I'd rather be just point blank and honest and if yall don' like it fine, you can post about it. Let me put it this way, most posts in this section have some form of import bashing, which I find objectionable. So I, and others like me speak up and it turns into a long post goign back and forth accomplishing nothing, but it's everybody's opinion and everybody is happy to express it. Well I feel you guys set a bad example in this forum and I am expressing it. You don' like it fine, post about it (you do so kudos to you). The whole point of a message board is to express opinions, so the just don' post about it doesn'twork because then the whole thing becomes a form of virtual masturbation, where eventually somebody will praise someone else for beating a garden slug with their buick. I'm not making any decisions about who can and can't post, i'm just saing being short and incoherent sucks.

this is similar to the statement a race is a race even if the other guy doen't know you are racing. Let me make this abundantly clear:

Getting someone you know to admit your car is fast without ever racing (espically after the other guy sold his car and has never been in yours) is lame, kill or not.

Preventing someone from cutting you off at a light or on the highway (in traffic) by flexing a little "buick muscle" is irresponsible and how most of the accidents changing lanes occur, Kill or not it is not behavior to be praised.

Bashing on import because you won a race is pointless because it serves to alinate the real car enthuasists on this site (see the mercedes kill) who may happen to own thoes other brands, or be into other types of this hobby (lifestyle).

Being incoherent in a kill story is pointless because nobody benefits.

I am not a buick lombotmy post-op, I have an opinion and I am gonna express it. If you have an opinion I encourage you to express it.

    As to this post:
    70_ skylark gets:

    A : for effort
A : for subject matter (old drag races are always cool)
    C- : for being incoherent
C- : for lack of details
D : for talking more about racing with smiley icons than actual words.

come on 70_skylark give us some coherent detail, I just know you can bring these marks up.

    Let the flaming begin:
