Hopefully, it's just a typo!!ou: The build #'s are only about 1100 or so earlier than my '72 Stage 1. That 'D' would have to be a 'G'.....not sure what plant was the 'H'.
72 Stage 1 Look at the interior. It's all wrong. GS's had woodgrain and the emblom on the grill is were?:blast:
Plant code H is Flint. In all reality, it looks like he's advertising the car correctly...says it's a Skylark with a 455 Stage 1. At least that's the way I took his ad.
Technically, it probably is a pretty accurate description, since he doesn't call it a GS anywhere. But I would call it deceptive. An unknowing potential buyer might get the distinct impression that it is a Stage 1 car, and his text refers to several GSX options. Someone that doesn't know Buicks could overspend for the car.
I suppose it could be thought of as deceptive, but, the buyer is responsible for being "aware" is he not? This guy might not even know the difference. I suppose he could go one step further and say "this is not a GS", but in calling it a Skylark, does he even need to? Not ranting, just blabbing more or less.. p
I don't believe anything is deceiving... I agree - it's always a buyer beware world we live in. At least it still has a VIN plate attached to the dash ou: The VIN is (thankfully) listed and can be researched accordingly, and the ad states 'Skylark'. Looks like a pretty decent clone :TU: There is enough information around, both here and in books to accurately decipher this car. Thanks to GM for finally putting motor codes in the car's VIN starting in 1972 :beer PS - the only GSX option I see is a rear spoiler o No:
I think he is probably advertising the car as a real Stage 1. Ebay doesn't have a "GS" category, so you either have to put your GS in "Skylark" or "Other", and many people seem to chose Skylark, since it is the same body style. His ad doesn't say Skylark anywhere, that is just the ebay category he is in. Here is his ad from cctol.com: 1972 BUICK GRAND SPORT, 455 Stage 1, headers, dual 2 1/2 aluminum pipes, flux fast mufflers, a/c, front disc brakes, all OEM parts, $13, 000 or best offer, 630-782-6261 Villa Park. Hopefully the ebay ad is just a typo and it really is a Stage 1 car.o No:
Whatever... Buyer Beware At least is not as bad as the blatant deceit of THIS CAR, listed yet again BS, as this dealer has been informed multiple times the car is a Skylark. :af:
Scott, that is the engine code. Here is the breakdown for a 72 VIN: 1972 Models 1st Digit - Division 4 = Buick 2nd Digit - Series D = Skylark F = Sportwagon G = GS H = Skylark Custom 3rd and 4th Digits - Body Style 27 = 2 Door Post Coupe 36 = 4 Door Station Wagon 37 = 2 Door Hardtop Coupe 39 = 4 Door Hardtop Sedan 67 = 2 Door Converible 69 = 4 Door Sedan 5th Digit - Engine Code H = 350-2bbl V8 J = 350-4bbl V8 K = 350-4bbl V8 (GS) U = 455-4bbl V8 (GS455) V = 455-4bbl V8 (Stage 1) 6th Digit - Model Year 2 = 1972 7th Digit - Assembly Plant C = South Gate, MI G = Framingham, MA H = Flint, MI X = Fairfax, KS Y = Wilmington, DE Z = Freemont, CA Last 6 Digits - Production Numb
According to the posted info, the first "H" is actually the Series. I emailed the seller asking him why the VIN indicated Skylark 2 barrel. His reply? "You're right! It's a Skylark with a Stage1 out of a wrecked 70 GSX". How unethical. uzzled: I sincerely hope nobody buys this thing thinking it's the real deal. John
Here is where I go for quick referencing: GS VIN Decoding I think I got the link from Marco's website! And even though you didn't ask, here is good one for production numbers! GS Production Numbers
True, but Scott I think Scott was referring to the first "H" that appeared in this car's VIN, which would actually be the Fifth digit (engine code), as this car has a "D" for the series.
ou: ou: I hate forgetting stuff like that!!:spank: Well....maybe THIS time, I'll remember it!!:Brow:
Just bookmark it, and create a folder called "Buick Links", that's a lot easier than having to remember!
