Is there something you need to do for the Hood Tach to work correctly with an HEI distributor? Sometimes it works right and sometimes it is 10,000 rpm too high.o No: Thanks, John
You really mean 1000 RPM off, correct? I'm not sure about the YO reproduction tachometer, but if they are the same design as the original tachometer, they are inherently inaccurate. I just put my stock tachometer back in, and on some parts of the scale, it is up to 300 RPM off. I had an Autometer tachometer in it's place while it was being repaired, and that was dead nuts accurate. What we need is someone to fit modern guts into our 40 year old tachometers. That would be sweet. Your tachometer should work fine with the HEI.
I just hooked my reproduction hood tach up a few weeks ago and I consider it a vague representation of the truth, however, it is not 1,000 rpm off..maybe a few hundred at the most.
I have used at my shop D & M Restoration for years. Am very satisfied with the work & $$$. I believe they can do ANYTHING related to gauges, polishing lenses, etc. They install completely modern electronics in OEM tachs or will rebuild your original.
