I would try to measure from the center of the original groove. The Buick balancer is 6.75" in diameter, so the SBC timing tape will work if you prefer that. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-161588/overview/

I just watched the story of the NHP stopping that senior couple in the '62 Impala... Lawsuit??? Hell no; payback is more like it. Id have a court order having them KNUCKLEHEADS dancing in their wives panties on the E-way shoulder at rush hour AND have the news crews there to film it. That kinda stuff IRKs the hell outa me. Of course they missed Jabrillo robbing the 7-11 at gunpoint. BTW... in the little town where I was from, my folks were both THE cops there. Pops was a lieutenant and mom was the matron. Had the police radio on top of the fridge, with a 911 phone on the wall, and the old man used his '66 BUICK 225 as the squad car with a suction cup sign on the hood... That was Indian Head Park Police unit 111. Cops were probably ex GI MPs with PTSD... Bill in TR

Never was able to find the chain mail gloves, but needed the chain mail arm spats instead... Got that 2nd new handle put on with only a minor loss of blood. Wouldnt ya know it that the local blood bank calls in the middle of this job and says "Its time for yer monthly donation..." I told the gal I was on empty and call back next month. Yes, I donate monthly...

Next to go was the Utica Geoff sport mirrors. Thanks again pal...Actually one of the easiest jobs to date. Laid everything out first and did several dry runs in the head and then started drilling. Again, screws were almost inaccessible, and could only touch the stubs with a finger tip, so, the spray glue came out and I glued the nuts and lock washers to the fingertip, and ran them down until wrenchable. NOW, I can put the new glass in the drivers side mirror, LOL... Did a third coat of rustoleum on the rocker panels in prep for putting the SS covers back on. Tomorrow I gotta run down to Burlington for a nice used front bumper...

NOW FOR THE BIGGY QUESTION OF THE DAY... I need to get new foam air cleaner to hood seals. Where do I get some that resemble OEM units? Ive seen some that were a HIDEOUS green 6 inch tall tower of Briggs and Stratton lawn mower filter stock and really want and original looking set that fits nice and also has the flexible membrane shell around the outside... Geez... just like the factory used. Appreciate the leads as long as no one says TPP.... Bill in TR

Boy oh boy are my feelings ever hurt:ball: No suggestions for that air cleaner sealing foam??? Oh well...

So the front end is almost done. Got the grill on in between re-bushing my pals Model T front axle. Saturday I picked up a nice driver quality front bumper so I have the old one as a core for anyone that needs one. Chrome is POOR but its a really straight bumper. The new one is about an 8 outa 10. After that's on some misc. trim and the front spoiler, then its time for a spin around the block... then Ill start on the interior.... Bill in TR

That car is really coming together !!
I don't know about those new Buicks, so I don't have a suggestion for the foam.

    Donate blood monthly?
Is that an apheresis donation ?
I was doing that monthly for many years. I got out of the habit in the past six years, changing jobs five times...
I need to get back in the routine of donating...

No, that's whole blood, by the sack. Not even a true blood bank, but if I need any its a freebie....Its not Red Cross either, its a private thing run by the local county. Bill in TR

Bill: I'm back home - got in last night. I've driven thousands of miles in horrific weather, but yesterday was the worst ever. From Staunton, Va to Binghamton, NY on Rt 81. Freezing rain then roads covered with hard-packed snow and hardly any plows. PA's answer was to reduce the speed limit to 45. Anyway, my truck had about a half-inch of ice all over it and hundreds of pounds of crap under it. I had to shovel both last night and today - almost forgot how to do it - LOL. Anyway, on the foams, try Then and Now in GA, as I've heard theirs are good. Car sure looks good.

Thanks Geoff and welcome home hahahaha... We're about 20 inches in deficit on the snow totals so far, but the sub zero air is making up for that... I just posted a new thred for the foam seals. I am gonna check out T&N forthwit...

I got the used driver quality bumper cleaned up inside and out, and shot a coat of chrome aluminum inside the guy just to stave off the rust demons. Also changed out the rusty nuts on the rubber bumper strip for brass. Again, to heed the rust... This one looks pretty good compared to the old with the exception of a few drips of battery acid that had landed on the corner. Geez, I never remember batteries being such a mess back in the day... Even after a top off and a baking soda rinse I never had rust or corrosion issues. That's history now. So the bumper is hanging loose in place and will work on the alignment on that one tomorrow... I feel like I just drove from Florida to here in an ice storm (!) :eek2::eek2::eek2: Bill in TR

Just checked with T&N and their set is $65! YIKERS!!!! Everywhere else is like $30-35. Mine really look trashy too and of course that's the first thing ya see when ya pop the hood... Ill probably make some, again... Bill in TR

Bill: Mark sells nice stuff. For an extra $30, I'd go with his. You are right - it is the first thing you see when you open the hood. Just my .02.

Far as I know T&N no longer sells the foams. No need to make them, TPP OPG + others sell them. I don't know how good they are, though.

That's where the problem lies... some look like a big block of green foam that's about 8" tall and just looks stoopid; Id call it Dodge-ish. Mine has the foam on it that's from Flint in 1972 and still works, just looks lousy LOL... All the places that sell them use a stock (probably GM parts book photo) picture and say its a duplicate of OEM and its a far cry from that... to wit:

    https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964-72-skylark-gs/mw422

    http://www.thenandnowauto.com/parts-directory

T&N has an even smaller pic. And these knuckleheads show "each" with a black dot for a pic.

    https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/

and the OPG stuff as "each" as well. Im gonna start making theses guys... a mold and some foam mix...

Sooo, I got the new bumper hung loose and started to pull it up and found a good teewk on the passenger side. Today, I took the drivers side bolts out and tightened the passenger side into place. The six foot bumper had a lot of leverage and with Pat out there on a wrecking bar on the concrete expansion joint, manage to push it into place while I tightened it. Looks Ok but not perfect. Maybe next year Ill rechrome the nice straight rusty bumper. If it aint one thing its another... Bill in TR

Bill: The car looks great. What else do you have left to do besides the foams? Looks like you are going to finish way ahead of schedule. You'll be done before the weather is better.

Tried to measure REMULAC collector gaskets. HOOKER headers measured at 2-3/4 and REMULAC carries 2-5/8. Only had the floor jack and really need to get some face time with a ruler for an accurate measurement; old gaskets and reading with a flashlite at arms length aint gonna do it!. Air cleaner foam guys (T&N) are closed for inventory today. Batting 1000. Last thing left is new seat covers and door panels that I already have in stock LOL... Going to sears in Greeen Bay to trade in some busted tools and lunch at the Gardina de Oliva! Bill in TR

Got a good collector measurement at 3" with a 3-3/8 bolt spacing so got them ordered today. Spent the rest of the day gutting the back seat, and pulled a few hundred feet of speaker system wire out. The package tray with 3 big speakers looked bubbled from maybe water or whatever. Got that pulled out and what could've been a better surprise? YEAH... DRAW YER OWN CONCLUSIONS. More expert craftsmanship, but its actually drawing to a close LOL.... Bill in TR

Ordered the air cleaner to hood foam seals today... everywhere was $30 EACH (!) and year one was $31 for the pair. Correct foam with black skin like the factory. Besides that was a YAWWWWWWN day; just got the back seat tub cleaned and painted, took apart the back seat for a skin job. The cotton batting was rusted glued to the spring. The propane torch made short work outa that issue. Primed with some cold galvanizing primer for no mo rust... Bill in TR

Still doing penance at least until the hands don't move anymore LOL... Got the two back seat sections re-skinned which meant cutting off a hundred rusty hog rings, and squeezing a hundred new ones on. Got a set of very like new PUI skins from a member here (Thanks!!) and they look good but were a "tad" small. Like they really needed to set in the hot sun to stretch over the springs, but we don't have any yet and the heat gun barely made it. The seat back got new foam and the bottom was re-used (it was good), but still needed to trim some edges to get the covers on. Seats 10 Willy 3.

EDIT: Wanted to ad a thanks to

on the bucket seat re-skin job. KEEP THE CORRUGATED WIRE!! Same goes on the back seats, otherwise your hog ringing to air. I sliced the old one off with a futility knife and wire wheeled it. Its spring steel and came out looking like new! I "capped" the end with some masking tape and slid it into the sock. The OEM sock was a woven tube, and the new one is some fuzzy spun garbage, but still does its job... THANKS GEORGE! Always referring to your "how to's" and really appreciate them!!

Replaced the PO's attempt at a rear shelf too... Picked up a piece of super high density poly foam board ( needed 1/4" and this was .200") and re-glued the old vinyl back on. What a job on two new knees sitting doubled over on the passenger bucket OR working stuffed into the trunk. Don't know how we used to sneak into the drive ins' as kids!

Gonna start re-assembling the deck and sail panels tomorrow and will hopefully include new window fuzzies and side panels whiled scrunched into position. New REMULAC collector gaskets showed up today too. Two days and they were here! Bill in TR
