X Body Disc Brake Swap "Swapping disc brakes for drum brakes is certainly not a new idea. But if your on a frugal buget, disc brake swap kits are a bit too pricey even for "stock" parts. Alternately, the exotic swaps command high prices down the road as well - you can't walk into your local Napa store and get a replacement cross drilled rotor for your Wilwood setup. Not to detract from the quality of any of these companies, they all put out an extremely fine product. If you happen to be debating to swap or not to swap, just do it. You'll have no regrets. The difference in braking effectiveness is dramatic. You'll be able to kiss all those drum pitfalls away. Pitfalls which you only realize once you've swapped. Wouldn't an X-body disc swap be the same as an F-body swap? I know all the X-body's '75 up are disc front. The steering is opposite(front to rear in relation to the engine crossmember) '68-74. I have heard of people using the later ones and just swapping from side to side.
The X body and Abody use the same brakes 64-72 A body 68-74 X body 67-69 F body there are many kits out there and the way to go is new cause finding a doner car gets you rusty crap and will cost the same or more once you replace all the wear items unless you have a smoking deal on a doner buy new. The only differance in the Abody cars is they are front steer just use the same steering arms from your car and go to it I have done this swap and sold the kit for it many many times works great just my .02c Ken
I just put 12" rotor with spindles up front and swapped out the 7.5" rear with an 8.5" with disc brakes as a bolt in deal all from a '77 Cadillac Seville. All bolted right in.
dude i have been seeing you on carcraft for a long time... your car is flat out wicked...dont mean to thread whore
Car still stops on a dime. I just got it fired up the other day with an SPX fuel injection and Megasquirt ECM.
