I've never heard of an "X" pipe that stepped down the size; however, I do have a brand new Pypes 3" "X" kit, if you're interested. Email me direct: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

yea torque tech and dr gas are the only ones I see with that step down ....
their science is to continue with 3 " all the way to the x pipe and then step down

I can always step down after the x but more clamping/welding ..so it would look cleaner

Plus I have 2 sets of 2 1/2 " mufflers to experiment with already :)

I have both 3 and 2.5" x pipe sections with miscellaneous piping in a kit I bought yrs ago from the GSCA club to make up your own exhaust. I'm sure there's plenty of pieces parts in there to make what you're looking to do.

....my intention was to use 3" x 2.5" with no reducers for a cleaner look ...and I would imagine it
    would have a smoother/tapered transition ....

You can expand a 2.5" pipe to 3" to fit. You would do a 2.5" I.D to fit over the X section so you won't get any dirty exhaust flow and you won't have a reducer and maintain that clean look. Any exhaust shop has a pipe expander

    1/2 expansion ...? isn't that to much
