Looking for two of these plastic pieces that go between the headrests and seat on a 1970 GS with bucket seats. Would prefer black but I can make any color work.
Are you aware there is now a pretty much perfect reproduction of this part available?? And, you can get them in black and white (colored plastic, not painted). Got a pair yesterday for a car. $14 each
Legendary has them unless you are looking for used ones. I would have to check but I don’t think they were that costly new, but again I would have to check. They come in black.
Thanks for the replies guys. A few months back I went on the Legendary website, searched for for my upholstery combo (1970 Buick GS with automatic transmission and black bucket seats) and literally ordered everything that came up from the search. An entire cars worth of interior parts and these shield things weren't listed and they weren't included with the headrests. So I assumed they weren't reproduced. I just did another search on the Legendary website with no luck. Anyone know what they are called?
Depending on how crazy you are getting there are 2 different types. The 69-70 pieces are molded units. The 71-72 are die cut pieces of plastic. .......and the attachment hole placement is different for each type. Duane
The are a variety of vendors that sell the repops, and I am pretty sure those are all coming from the same supplier. If you want originals,I will see what I have.
I would say I am moderately crazy. I would prefer the correct style part but am not willing to devote an excessive amount of time or money to finding the correct part. Now that you have pointed out there are two styles of parts, I will however loose some sleep until I figure out which is actually available. Yes please. let me know what you have.
IMO - there is no difference b/n the 69/70 headrest filler plastics and the '71/2 version. I compared '70 headrests (12/70 date code) here to the original headrests on my '72 (headrest chrome post date code of 11/10/71) and they are the same thing, spacing, etc. The repro plastic fillers fit and line up correctly on both sets. I also think the original style/construction of the filler plate is the same for all years ('69-72 - ie- molded/grained plastic with a raised "ridge" along the front edge - and that's what the repros are). I've also been working on a guy's '71 442 and it has the same style original filler plates - molded with the grain and the raised ridge along the front. Buy the repros and be done with it.
To others that may be considering these repro pieces.....The Parts Place and Ames Performance sell them in BOTH black and white. I haven't called ILT on these but they only appear to offer them in black. Maybe that has changed but if not, these other vendors offer two color choices so there's no need to buy them in black and then paint them white, etc.
