I'm looking to get a few things for the 65. First is the 2 inner fender wells. I have to sacrifice them to get a measly 2-2.5 inch"s from the very bottom on both sides to weld them both to the new trunk pan I got in the GS. Then I'd be able to get the body sealed and painted so I can finally get the body back on the chassis!!!! There's OPG I guess plus I'm hoping that some new restoration places have opened in recent years. I've been sidelined for a while now but really need to get a few things going again. The pan was put in probably 6 years ago and the welded disappeared on me and I really need to get these two little pieces and and welded so I could get the body back on the freaking chassis!!! Who's got the best prices????
The inner would be the same as all the other A bodies, the outers are different between the brands. There are so many spot welds holding the 2 halfs together that you would destroy the outers getting them apart. BTW,do you have a Skylark, Rivera or Wildcat?
65 GS. New truck pan in already. If I had a new pair of rear left and right inner fender wells, I'd only need the bottom 2 inches off both bottoms. Then I can join the trunk to the rear inner fender wells. Not sure if I was clear The 64-65 GTO LeMans is the same too.
Rock Auto list Sherman and Goodmark inners! Punch in 1965 gto body parts and they should come up! We used Goodmarks? on my hardtop and they worked good, they were cut a little above the trunk self and butt welded in! The tab that goes over the trunk body mount had to be altered a little to make it correct!
I'll look. OPGI had em on sale for 77 a side!!!!!! Wow great deal huh. Until check out time, they tried to hit me with a 200 shipping charge so cancelled that order. Did score white front bucket upholstery foe only 310 for the pair!!!!!! At least I can dress up my 55 year old original 65 GS Bucket seats now!! Still working on the rear wells tho!!!!! Anyone?!?!?!?!
Hey Joe, If they're only rusted below the beads, they're fairly easy to repair. I make templates out of cereal boxes, transfer to sheetmetal, scribe and cut to fit for a butt weld. I'm working on a 66 GS vert now. Bought a TIG welder too, an Alpha Tig for $700. Well worth the investment, it can make nice tiny weld beads that are easy to finish off. If you want to buy the inners, Jegs/Summit or eBay offer free shipping.
