1961 Buick Electra Bubble Top. Looks real good for 1961. Looks like original paint and interior. Runs and shifts good. Brakes are a little weak. Original transmission and motor (401 Nail Head Wild Cat). Needs front floor patch panel and some work on front of hood. Very little body work left to do.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the Invicta or Electra have square upper corners on the rear glass and LeSabre has the (what I call proper) radius corners? The car looks a little strange with the square corners when compared to a LeSabre.

Seems like a lot of different body styles for one year, especially in the roof and rear window area. The Electra is different than the Invicta and the LeSabre may or may not be the same, a hardtop is different than a sedan, and then there's the convertible which is also different..... man it's confusing!

LeSabre and Invicta are the same body with the correct(desired) bubble top roof that is shared with the Implala/Bel Air, Catalina/Ventura.

The Electra has the bubble top roof with the squared glass you speak of.

FWIW, The Ivicta was the performance model before the Wildcat, that was produced by putting the big car(Electra) 401 into the LeSabre in place of the 364. In 62 The Wildcat was a package on the Invicta, called an Invicta Wildcat. In 63 the Invicta name was retired, and Wildcat took it's place as the performance model above the LeSabre.

Thanks for the "big Buick" lesson! I didn't know those facts about roof lines. Kind of strange that they would make one model with a different rear glass..... especially when it doesn't have the visual impact that the other style has. Did other GM full size cars have these same roof/rear glass options?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Yes Steve, the Electra shares the same rear qtr windows with other "big" cars of 61, such as the caddy and olds 88 (I think it was the 88). Electra also has a slightly longer wheelbase than the LeSabre or Invicta. Here are photos of mine.

    Thanks guys for the info!

I sure do love the looks of a 61 LeSabre Bubble Top like yours!! Absolutely stunning!!

I always thought about owning one, but the price always kept me away. Perhaps when I sell the GSX...........

    Good luck in your search!!!

Not Mine, this one I photographed in Alamogordo NM a couple of years ago. Not even sure of exact year or model to be honest.

That's a '61 Invicta. Note that it has 4 portholes instead of 3 as on my LeSabre. Which salvage yard in Alamogordo was the picture taken at?

Look at the qtr windows Stacey, I think it is an Electra, not an Invicta.

You are right, they are squared off. I didn't catch that at first.

I believe Wild Bill's. Or North US 54 Salvage. I do believe it is Wild Bill's though, as North 54 crushed out 98 percent of their older inventory, only saving about 25 to 40 fairly complete older cars. Wild Bills does not have regular hours, they may also be in the early stages of crushing out and or shutting down, I have not been over there to Alamogordo in about six months.
