Wrong springs?

I bought new springs for my 69 Skylark ragtop. The car was converted from SBB to BBB, that is the reason for the new springs. The new front spring appears heavier than the old but a little shorter when both are side by side on the floor. Is this to be expected. Also the lower ball joint fell out of the control arm when it came free. Aren't these supposed to be pressed in?

The springs can be shorter, but have a higher rating, and the car will sit correctly. I don't think it's a problem at all. The ball joints are press fit. After several changes, the hole can be enlarged. I've heard of them being tack welded in, but it might be better to get new control arms.

They have alternative lower ball joints with thicker splined bodies for worn out or enlarged lower ball joint sockets.
