Would you reccomend headers for a 340?

I am looking to make some minor modifications to my 67 GS 340 to boost the HP a bit and now Sanderson is making shorty headers for the 340. Curious if anyone has installed them on the 340 and had good success. Any cautions or reccomendations are appreciated.

I wouldn't expect much of an increase in HP or TQ,...if any. My advice with a 340 is leave it alone or do ported heads and a cam, more money but a much better return on money spent

What are you running for a tranny, gears and convertor??

Good point , if you don't plan on too much 80mph Hwy driving, id gear it up to a 3.42 or even a 373 ,i think.those gears are available for the 8.2 rear anyway, and throw a little stall in it and it will be much more fun

I just bought the car and I know it has the original 340 and tranny that was completely rebuilt. I am trying to reach the guy that rebuilt these to see how this is geared, but I know it has a higher performance CAM that the stock CAM (has a "lope" when it idles). I have the videos of the car rebuild and I recall someone mentioning that is has a "3/4" CAM which I don't think knowledgeable people call the performance CAM's.

As you can tell I am not very knowledgeable on all of this, so I apologize for my lack of details here. I just know the car drives very nice, but would like a bit more "get up an go" without changing too much of the original integrity of the car as it is all basically original and rebuilt. I thought a performance exhaust system would give it a bit more growl and a bit more performance.

Not to bore you, but here are the stack of You Tube videos documenting the rebuild on this car:

I'd check the initial timing. See when all the mechanical timing is in, and what the total timing is. That can make a huge difference with a higher performance cam.

if it was me and I have had 340's, I would go for the headers. 340's built right are a neat engine and really do well for what they are. too bad more h/p parts aren't available for them.

I was thinking of getting a hold of TA after the 350 stuff is done and see if they can make a S/P intake for a 300 that would work with their TA Rover heads and spacers to use the intake on a 340 like the tall deck BBC does.

I think the TA Rover heads would work on a 340 as long as he has the 4v intake, headers would be great with that combo!
