Worship gathering @ Salem

    Hey Folks,

Well, I plan to make it down to Salem for the first time this year. I've got nothing to race (or show, for that matter), but I'd love to come down and see the action I've been missing for the past couple of years.

As well, for this year, I've gladly inherited -- from Dan (Floydsbuick) -- the lead to organize some sort of Sunday morning worship gathering for those interested. Basically, I figure we can meet somewhere at the track, pool any prayer requests we have and have a prayer, maybe sing some songs (I'll take requests if you've got any... now would be a good time, in case I don't know it :Do No: ) and look at some Scripture, perhaps a "message of encouragement" too (Acts 13:15).

For those that don't know, I'm currently in training (working towards a B. Th.) to be a minister/evangelist/pastor. The Lord's work is my life, but I still like to find time for Buicks (and Mopars too... gasp!). Sunday morning at Salem, if with nobody else, I'll still be finding some quiet time (is that possible at a dragstrip???) to worship God... but, as you all know, the more, the merrier! :)

If you guys have suggestions, lemme know. :)
    Thanks, and God bless!

I believe Dan has always had the gathering at the base of the tower at 8am before the racers' meeting.

    Thanks for doing this, Glen!

Thanks Glen!!! This year I'm the walking zombie. I wasn't much better last year when I bailed at the last minute.
Things were supposed to be going smoother, but I'm locked in on 6am-530pm shifts, six days, for at least thru Aug until Sept. I'm gonna try to see you there Glenn, but I gotta tell youns, its unlikely I'll even be there this year.

Adam, thanks for the heads up. :TU: I won't mess with a good thing. So, 8am it is at the base of the tower. Hope to see as many as possible!

Dan, I know the schedule is tight for ya, but it'd be great to see you at the event! If you're not able to make it, I'll for sure make a stop at the house, either on my way down or back home.

Jeff, sounds like a great idea! I hope it works out for you guys, and hopefully others will be able to come to know Christ, beginning with a connection through cars. :TU:

Thanks, Adam. I did talk to Rick about this a couple of weeks ago, so that's cool that he was able to slot it in. :)

Guess I don't need to mess with it... because I can't! :Dou:

Good on ya'll for doing this! Vacation is never a time to be away from Christ. Wish I could come as I'd love to fellowship there. Let the gathering be a light for all. I'm sure this will be a blessing!

    Hey Folks,

I'll be leaving Thursday morning for Salem, but won't get there 'til Friday afternoon/evening. Making a stop in Ithaca, NY first, and then to Salem on Friday -- or, Boardman, if it's late enough already in the day.

I will gather recent prayer requests from this forum for us to remember and pray about on Sunday morning. However, first thing to remember in our prayers before leaving... safe travels!

See you all there! I'm excited! :TU:

Have a great trip Glen! I'm bustin' my butt on the Wildcat and BBB truck to try and free sometime up on Saturday. But as of now I'm still only looking at the Thur night cruise. So maybe I'll meet up with you. :Do No:

Hey Dan, sorry I didn't reply sooner. Like I said, I had to go to Toronto right after Salem to teach at a Bible camp for a week, so this is my first time on a computer since I left for Salem! :)

How'd it go? Well, it was pretty quiet, since nobody showed up. :( Pretty disappointed. I was hoping for, at the least, a few to gather for prayer and to discuss things spiritual, but nobody was there. Oh well, I suppose we shall try again for next year, eh? It was great meeting everybody! I'll post elsewhere about that. :)

I'm really sorry to hear that too.

We do something similar for all the NSCA races. I am under the umbrella of "JAMA Racing Ministries" ("...Jesus and Me, Always..."), which was founded by one of our class champions. We are now the third largest racing ministry, behind Racers for Christ and Godspeed Ministries.

Anyway, we do a small chapel service at 9 am on Sunday, and then the invocation during the opening ceremonies. We are available to minister if anyone has a specific need or question and then also help in the unfortunate event of a mishap on the track.

We had 25 at our last service at Thompson (yay!). I would encourage you to hang in there, be faithful with what you have, and lift it up in prayer. I suspect you'll develop a following of the "faithful few" and it will grow from there!

    Keith,

Thanks for the encouragement, man! Your ministry sounds awesome, and I'm glad you guys have become as successful as you are! :TU: 25 for attendance, that's great! :TU: Keep up the good work, and praise God for what you are doing! :)

    God Bless,

What else would you like to know? :)

The NSCA stopped at "beautiful" Thompson Ohio this year for the first time. Nice older facility and I think it is safe to say a good time was had by all.

We have two races left: one in Martin Michigan and then the finals in Columbus. Check nsca-racing.net for more details.
