Ok, I've installed a plow on my truck, with an electric pump. for peace of mind, I'd like to run two batterys, one for the truck, and the other for the pump only.. as i'm sure some of you know the pump puts quite the load on the charging system, and can easily leave me walking late at night if it ever stalled. so any suggestions? ? can one alternator charge two batterys at once? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

if you go to kragen they sell multi-battery isolators that will switch between charging batterys (or so it says) depending on which one needs it.

What i found out is: It really only charges the main battery, and sucks power when it needs it out of the second, like a reserve battery, leaving the second one dead shortly (yes i wired it right)

Only thing i could think of, two alternators and wire the electrical systems seperately (24 volts in a 12 v application would end up being bad)

Ill keep checking, i would like 2 batteries also, more sound :TU:

I do alot of camping with the wife and kids, and these days everyone neeps to plug something in!

So...in the 1/2 ton GMC I put a second battery in.

Buy a battery isolator, so the alternator charges both but truck uses one. I then wired up a power inverter to the secondary battery so I can plug an extension cord into it!! presto, everything but the kitchen sink can come along camping

your secondary battery should be a deep cycle battery.

    its a sweet set-up

What alternator does that GMC come with?
...or what year is the GMC?

    May suggest an alternator upgrade.
