Help please. I know that it's got to be sooo simple, but i don't want to fry anything. I'm replacing the existing generator in my '62 special with a 3 wire, internally regulated alternator. I've removed and taped the wires at the regulator, but don't know what's next. Do i connect the big terminal (bat) on the alt. directly to the battery with it's own dedicated wire? Or does it connect to one of the existing wires that went to the regulator? Also has a separate 2 wire plug, white and red. Which would go to the idiot light and where does the other go? Thanksd, rick

Depends. What alt are you using? 10 or 12 SI? For simplicity the terminal marked (2 or F) will usually be red and can be connected to the alt bat post. (1 or R) is usually white and will connect to your indicator lite. If the car is stock and does not require more amps from added electrical components, you can use the existing wires on the car now. The wire from the original gen bat or positive post can be spliced or bolted together with the wire that came off of the reg bat terminal. At the reg where you taped the wires connect the 2 together. These will be the fatter 2 wires. Originally one was to the reg bat terminal and the other was to the reg gen terminal. These are the 2 to be connected together. The end at the old gen will be connected to the post with the new red wire. 2 wires now on the alt pos post. If you originally had a lite on the dash then connect the white wire to the small wire that originally was on reg (A ) terminal. Since the gen field wire is not being used, you can connect the white wire to the gen field wire and at the other end at the reg you can connect the field wire to the small lite wire. Doing it this way you can leave in all the existing wire and use it without adding any new wires. Got it? if not call me. it is easy and I can walk you thru it in a couple of min. Want to say thanks to Stellar, Car has been under tarps due to the rain, and soon i will un wrap it to see what alt. i was sold and look at the wiring route. I had read the earlier post and the link to Madelectrical, so i kinda understand. Thinking to maybe run new wires (#10) from bat term. Car is stock, but will upgrade tunes. Thanks and i will call you. Rick
